Good call here too.

Murray has offered Volchenkov a new contract apparently. Volchenkov will decide soon.

Really...you want him to retire? What has he really done that warrants him stepping away. He didn't destroy the team like Gainey or Burke did.

It could be worse, we could have chose to hire Gauthier again...oh the days of the "1 cookie per person" signs..

Loved them.

It's not just about cap space. Let me put it this way: if you were a millionaire, would you pay $60000 for a $40000 car? No, of course not. Even if we have the cap space, doesn't mean we should use it all up on the first thing that comes around.

It's not that, it's the $$ of Volchenkov. Anything over 4 and it's an overpayment - and you still have to treat it that way, you can't just pay whatever or the Sens will be in deep Dung later.

I don't want him to retire at all. It's good to know that Tim will be taking over when he leaves because these are real hockey minds. They make the odd misstep, but they're really stellar overall.

I hope he agrees and that is a nice cap friendly number.

without Volchenkov last night we would have lost he blocked so many ovie shots, and was able to keep him to the outside, anyone know what were going to do if this guy leaves ?

Because moving players of that caliber is really hard. Like, scoring from 200-feet away from the goal kinda hard. It happens (see: Toskala, Vesa), but just not everyday. Cheechoo's contract in particular is an anchor that no one's going to take off our hands, so stop dreaming about that one.

Plus, you need someone to play in place of Picard and Campoli, and they're going to cost at least as much what those two are earning now (which is just a pinch over the league minimum). I don't know about you, but I don't want to try going it with 5 D next year.

And voila, that's why figuring out how to squeeze Volchenkov's raise into our salary cap structure is so difficult.
