Brunette has another year left and is awesome. I would support that move fully - as long as we're not messing with chemistry.

Since we'd have to give up a few young players ... prolly safe to say that we would be messing with chemistry.

As much as I love Shannon...Brunette's better and more experience and apparently very good in the room. We'd have to give up Picard and a pick as well. But...that doesn't make much sense for Minny, so this is all probably BS anyway.

With only 3 D under contract for next year and Brian "Mr. Minnesota" Lee as part of the deal, it makes plenty of sense. Specially if they are out of the playoff picture in 10 days time.

Well I don't think anyone would miss Lee. But how much trade value does he really have ?

Shannon ? I doubt we'd miss him, and I personally can't wait til that midget is gone. He's disappearing again and is already down on the 4th line. Then again I don't know why anyone would want him, he's not Martin St. Louis by any means.

Cheechoo ? Beaten like a dead horse no one's gonna take this guy. We can dream.

Kelly - Popular guy in the locker room I hear, he centers a pretty effective line and does well on our PP. I doubt Winnie or Smith could just effortlessly replace him.

Picard - Prolly not missed ... but who'd want him ?

Did I miss anyone ? I don't think any of those would land us Whitney or Brunette, without being bundled with our 1st rounder anyway.

Lee could maybe be traded for another disappointing rookie like Brunnstrom or Sheppard perhaps, but that's a lateral move and we'd be rolling the dice.

We're not giving up anything with those players and the Wild would be losing a lot trading Brunette (for example).

Shannon's great. Why do people hate on Shannon? He works his tail off, is defensively responsible and can put up points (when give some top 6 time).

I would loathe to trade him...but I would if the offer was good.

Yeah, 13 so far.

We all loved that hardworking, defensively responsible guy in the mid-90s but we're not an expansion team any more.

Time for The Runaway to catch the next boxcar out of town.

While there are some obvious sellers in Edmonton, Toronto, and Anaheim, teams like Columbus, Montreal, Boston, Florida, St Louis, and Dallas could all decide that their season is over before the Olympic break.

Columbus- Huselius, Umberger, Modin, Torres, (Filatov?)
Montreal- Plekanec, Kostitsyn
Boston- Recchi, Begin. Morris, Ferrence
Florida- Moore, Dvorak, Seidenberg, Leopold
St Louis- Kariya, Tkachuk, Sydor
Dallas- Richards, Modano, Lehtinen, Bruunstrom

I Whitney? What are the trade deadline options? - Page 8 Herz that you have Boston out of the playoffs. It looks so nice on the screen.

As for Dallas, I want Richards and I make no bones about it. Spezza for Richards straight up - and hope we can re-sign Richards.

Kuba? How expendable is he right now if we had a vet UFA defenceman coming back. Cowen could replace next year or we can use Kuba+Cheechoo buy-out money to sign a real defenceman...

Well now we're talking .. what's the status of his NTC again ? Razz

he's on pace for a 34pt season and seeing his pass to Kovalev in the Habs game I wonder who'll replace him. For all the hate Kuba gets sometimes he does do some things right.

I don't think Coach CC plays Karlsson on the PP much at all, EK is our future PP QB. But Karlsson isn't there yet and he's certainly not putting up the numbers yet so I wonder if our already abysmal PP will take another hit. Might be premature to trade Kuba, especially if the Sens are looking to return to the post season. Do you want a (talented) rookie manning your PP in game 7 of a series ?

Shannon is tied with Cheech for points, with more PP time. I don't know why Clouston plays him so much. Sure he makes much less than Cheech and he's fast but his point production is nothing to write home about. He's about as expendable as it gets.

A lot of people would argue that Kuba has played a massive role in Karlsson's meteoric rise. Yes, it takes talent and a feel for the game on Karlsson's end, but who's to say that it doesn't have a ton to do with Kuba?

Me. Karlsson played some of his best hockey with Campoli.

Does getting rid of Kuba for another D man help the Sens?

He's played just as well - maybe better - with Phillips.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's Kuba specifically, but just the support of a reliable, veteran defenceman.

That said, I don't really see the point in upgrading on Kuba, unless we're talking in terms of Chara proportions (which we're not).

Some believe Whitney is simply calling his shot here, raising the price and stakes for teams that he's not really interested in playing for until the team he desires puts in a call to the Hurricanes, in which case he could conceivably be moved without a contract extension and choose his new home in the summer, perhaps even signing back in Carolina. Although many think that team he is waiting on at the deadline is none other than the Pittsburgh Penguins.

Whitney might look pretty good patrolling Sidney Crosby's wing in the playoffs. He certainly fits the bill of what the Penguins need - a goal-scoring winger with clutch qualities and Stanley Cup experience.

But sources say Pittsburgh has yet to inquire about Whitney and even if the Penguins did, they are not likely to be able to offer up as much as Los Angeles was prepared to give Carolina.

LA apparently asked and was told Teubert or Voynov (or something) and a 2nd round pick. And then...The Wizardo himself told LA that they would have to re-sign him to a 3-year contract.

How about...hmmm.... Thinking....uh...Diddle no?

Dreger was asked today who he though would be going from Carolina - and he said absolutely EVERYONE besides Staal and Ward. Corvo, Whitney, Cullen. Everyone's for sale.

Darren Dreger: (The guys everyone's talking about) and Walker, A. Ward, Alberts, Yelle, Wallin, Legace. The Carolina Hurricanes are rebuilding with Eric Staal, Cam Ward, and potentially the first overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft to lead the construction. A number of teams have interest in the players both you and I have identified. I know at least one team is prepared to give up a first rounder and a prospect for Whitney.
