It's not as easy as we've made it out to be but Boyle said we were one of the teams on his list and all Murray had to do was make an offer. He declined. Who in their right mind would do that when we are losing Redden (who wasn't very good but he should have been replaced) and Meszaros? He should have relished the opportunity to get a guy like Boyle. All it would have costed us was Meszaros.

i agree that boyle makes absolute sense in ottawa AND he wanted to play here.... i still think murray is a good GM to build a team. maybe once were rebuilt if he's skittish about making the right moves then... but i'd hate to end up witha mucler type to rebuild the sens...

Losses against:
Atlanta 6-1
Carolina 4-1
Florida 3-0
Washington 5-2
Boston 4-1

TOTAL: 22-5

Five straight games of losing by three or more. There is enough talent to do better than that. Once again, I predict something major, likely Leclaire to Bingo or a coach (assistant) relieved of their duties.

Wow, did anyone see the goaltending showdown between Marty and Hank?

Friggin' incredible.

Murray's drafting has been good and Melnyk does seem to like him.

I could see Tim Murray taking over as GM. He would be a good guy to start a rebuild.

i almost bought a leclaire jersey.... oh man, thanks god i went with a safe pick.

I really don't think it's the goalies. It's something else. What that is I can only think coaching. Elliott was a promising young goalie who was embarrassingly good in the AHL and played pretty well last season. Leclaire has had some solid games when healthy in Columbus. Emery has played well in Philly. There's something going on and it's not the goalies. I truly believe that.

Maybe it is Eli... it is really puzzling...

First of all, MOI has been preaching this for well over a year and I finally think he's right. The old argument was that Carey Price and Tim Thomas were great under Eli's tutelage, but price sucks and Tim Thomas is an anomoly in more ways than one, plus he has the advantage of training under his normal goal coach in Boston.

Second, 22-5 also highlites that goaltending isn't the stand alone issue here. Five goals for is woefully sad. If we had only allowed one goal each game we definitely would have won one, lost one and the rest would have gone to OT

Third, I agree with Jordo, we are just too banged up. I really don't hate the Sens right now, I hate the situation.

I think it shows just how bad our defense and goaltending really is. We all knew it was bad. I think this shows us just how bad it really is.

I have strong feelings on what went on tonight. A lot of questions. Here's a sample:

What good is a shutdown duo when they can't shut anything down? What about Kelly? What are these guys doing? Can't you shut a team down, grind them out, slow them down? I don't understand, there has to be a way to slow a game down through simple hitting and chipping. This was horrendous, our goaltending is disgusting, truly disgusting.

I have to wonder if the guys on the ice cared tonight, because they just yelled loud and clear: we're not good enough to win with key injures.

Dammit. Absolutely brutal. Do me a favour and trade the entire D with the exception of Karlsson and get me new one. And do the same with the goaltending. Come on.

Diddling absolutely terrifyingly frustrated right now. Tantrum

Jordo wrote:While I can in no way defend this brutal display of hockey.. can I remind everyone of who we're missing. I hate making excuses, but let's be honest... We're missing our entire top line, our top defenseman, and Winchester and now Cheechoo..

I'm not sure we can expect much more. Kovalev is useless, I'll agree... and now Fisher is getting a Dung more attention than he's used to.

This is bad luck people, not bad management....

Take any other team in the league, subtract their top 4 players, and see how they compete.

The voice a reason. This gets an awesome +1 from me. GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Atlanta Thrashers - 7:00pm ET - Tue. Jan. 12th, 2010 - Page 27 54934

We can't afford to rebuild. The fanbase is too fair-weather.

Anyway, as downright embarrassing as tonight's showing was, even a rebuilt team is not going to overcome ridiculous injuries.

Murray's tenure has been up and down but Muckler's inability to bring in quality young pieces is really hurting this team's offence right now. The remedy to that will probably take some time.

Asq2 - I must say good call on calling cheechoo out just like I did when that heatley trade went down. I went back and read it and you called a rotten player a rotten player. Murray has made two horrible trades in a row. If he wasn't so good on draft day, he would be gone.
Worst goalies in the league and chooch is a mess. I called it from day 1

Now the question becomes: given we lost 6-1 to the Thrashers, are the Blackhawks going to break triple digits? GAME DAY: Ottawa Senators @ Atlanta Thrashers - 7:00pm ET - Tue. Jan. 12th, 2010 - Page 27 270956
