Not many to choose from. We're never getting Lidstrom or Neidermayer.

Michalek be a good Volchenkov replacement if we don't get A-Train resigned. The problem is that we still don't have a #1 defensemen or at least a serviceable #1.

He knew how we were looking when Alfie, Michalek and Spezza were in the lineup. That's why he'll make a deal or deals.
We shall see... bragging rights are on the line...

However I would be open to looking at Gonchar. He is extremely important to Pittsburgh though. Their PP without him is whore-id.

Oh, you know me, I'm open to making a MASSIVE trade. For nothing else other than I like some of the pieces we have, but if we could make a package deal to bring in an undisputed number on D-man AND also pick up a Gonchar, we're absolutely right back int the thick of it - not to mention that we'll still have Cowen, Wiercioch coming up in a year or so - AND Karlsson in the lineup to learn at an NHL level.

Yeah, he's a solid number 2 guy, but we're gonna need a number one D-man - as we all knew last summer and we all waiting for...and it never came for whatever reason. Kovalev came, but no number one D-man. Go figure.

Well, the N1/2 Ds know they are rare, so they want the 7x7 type of deal, which we cannot give, so Murray takes the 1/2 year-deals available.

It is tough because we are not flush with either prospects or depth so moving any major peice would leave a hole somewhere. Sure we MAY be able to move Spezza for a true #1. Then who's going to center the top line? We could move Fisher but that leaves a hole too... not sure what to do here?

Yeah, it's gonna be tough. We may have no choice but to wait.

I'm open to trading pretty much anything for a #1 defensemen too but it would likely open up another hole in our roster. That's the sacrifice you would have to make though because having a #1 defensemen is so important. It's a tough call really because on one hand you'd be filling a definite need but likely creating another one.

The latest:

On the rumour front, the Brian Lee talk remains at the forefront. As I mentioned last week, Ottawa is trying to package Lee together with a forward from the current roster to get an upgrade up front.

Minnesota remains the most likely destination.

The sense I get is that while Ottawa won't be overly active at the deadline, they are expected to make some sort of addition.

If not Brunette, then who?

It would probably be Brunette or

I wouldn't mind taking James Sheppard off their hands though. He's struggling this year but he's still only 21 and he still has a lot of potential.

A Lee for Sheppard swap would be fine with me. That's if we're not getting Brunette.

How can we get Zidlicky into a Sens jersey with Brunette in the same trade? Cheechoo, Campoli, Lee, Cowen, Shannon?

I doubt we'd be trading for "potential".

At the cost of Lee? Give me a reason why not?
