Despite rumors that Montreal and Toronto are both lining up a move for the former Canadian World Junior star there have been no such talks to date. I am still hearing that Lee and O'Brien are the players in question but Ryan O'Marra could also be a player involved in the deal.

who is the inside man. If that were true I'd be comfortable with that but I dont think Edmonton would be willing to move those 2 guys for ours. I think it would need to be more Kelly on the way out for those guys because Edmonton needs PK help.

Cogliano looks like nothing more than a younger Chris Kelly to me anyhow, I don't see how that swap works for either side other than a salary dump for us.

Speaking of which, are there any updates on the Cheechoo for Svatos or Cheechoo and Picard for Brunnstrom and Grossman rumours?

Thumbs Down For his sake, I hope this gets done. His little reputation is sliding down the crapper.

Who's the inside man?

i ahd never heard of a svatos for cheecho or brunnstrom for that matter... where is that coming from?
i think cogliano has more offencive possibilities then kelly, so i would do that trade any time. it would suck losing kelly as he's been great on the PK and has been one to step up this year.

now this might be interesting... apparently ottawa has an eye on biron???

Biron à Ottawa?

Samedi, 16 Janvier 2010

a little note from pierre lebrun on ESPN:

Senators stuff
Somewhat under the radar is the fact that shutdown blueliner Anton Volchenkov is slated for unrestricted free agency. The Ottawa Senators can't afford to lose him, but contract talks haven't gone anywhere yet.

"I'm hoping this week to have some concrete discussions in that regard," Sens GM Bryan Murray told ESPN.com on Saturday.

Volchenkov, who is represented by Jay Grossman, is earning $3.2 million this season, but his cap number is $2.5 million. He's getting a raise, whether it's in Ottawa or elsewhere.

I've also noticed a few of my media colleagues suggested over the past few weeks that it might be time to look at moving Alexei Kovalev. But Murray told me that was a no-go.

"He's not going anywhere, Alex is a real good player for us," said Murray. "He's a talented player. That's why we signed him. He gives that dimension on the second line that we were looking for."

Kovalev has another year on his deal at $5 million for next season.

so doesn't look like we'll be getting rid of kova anytime soon. but it does sound like bryan wants to keep volchy

Why would we want to get rid of Kovalev if our cap doesn't have issues for now? The guy is playing very well.

I'm actually quite happy with these 2 things. Do I think that Kovalev could be more consistent? (I'm talking effort level here and not production) Heck YEAH! But overall, I've been happy with him and as far as Volchy goes; I could not bear to see him in a different uniform (except maybe russia in the olympics) and I hope BM thinks the same ...

i personally, don't think he's playing up to what i thought he was gonna play. and that, ain't much. i wouldn't mind getting a younger gun in exchange, maybe a few bucks in cap relief.
