Really? 4 years later it rears it's ugly head?
I'm not disagreeing, what he went through must have been hell, but do you really think he's suffering from that?
I think it may have started to manifest itself almost immediately. Ergo the trade request to the Thrashers.
Paranoia is can be a big component. If you think about it, I'd say 90% of the critisism has always been directed at Spezza and Heatley was always heralded as the benchmark of this team.
When some of the veneer started to get peeled away in the latter half of this season, paranoia, avoidance and all sort of psychosis' started to appear.
When someone avoids calls from one of the most respected players in the game, and a friend on top of it all in Alfie, it kind of started me thinking.
Maybe this is more of a medical issue than an attitude problem. Now, I am by no means any type of physician, but how can someone do such a complete nosedive in such a short period of time. In effect, I bet he's never dealt with the issues caused by this car accident.
I have seen first hand though, the effects of PTSD on a close family member. After returning from a tour of duty in Kosovo, he completely disassociated and alienated himself from his family, including a young son. He actually became violent, resulting in Military Police intervention.
Sadly he to this day denies any problems.
PTSD can linger for years, if not the entirety of a person's life.
