If he ends up there because there were no other options, how is that going to help the team? They all know he doesn't want to be there, and the fans know he doesn't want to be there. How does this move make Edmonton any better? I don't care if he has had 2 50 goal seasons in a row. I can't imagine that he would produce as much there, and he won't be playing with an Alfie or Spezza there, so how does he make them better?

I would pull out of this if I were them, and go in another direction completely. I think Tanguay would help them more than Heatley (that is, only if Tanguay wants to be there) otherwise, they're screwed and will be at the bottom of the pack once again.

It's actually pretty sad. (I don't mean that sarcastically either)

You assume that Tanguay would go to Edmonton? No one else will. That's the position they're in right now.

Tanguay has played the majority of his NHL career in the West with Colorado and Calgary... I see him as being more likely to go to Edmonton than Heatley... but who knows. Maybe no one wants to go to Edmonton.

Sens Chirp in his blog is saying a lot of the chatter he has heard today is indeed about Dany being a Senator come the start of this season, but he doesn't dismiss the fact it could just be Murray/Melnyk and the Sens just saying the right things until a deal is reached, wow, who knows really what is going on? Really wished it was over, one way or another.

I'm not assuming anything, that's why I said "if he wants to be there". It seems to me that no one wants to be there, but you never know. Tanguay is one of the UFAs that still doesn't have a contract. I'm pretty sure he wants to be playing in the NHL next year, so he might not have a choice either.

The problem that Edmonton is going to face - again, for like the 20th straight year - is that they didn't sign any of the top UFAs because the top UFAs all went elsewhere. Tanguay is finishing up the details on his contract now. Florida is the front-runner, but there are as many as 7 teams involved. That to me is insane for a guy who's soft as a baby's arse, but shows how much interest there still is in top-tiered UFAs.

But, Edmonton won't be a part of that either - unless something drastic changes. Petr Sykora and Miro Satan are still available. If I was Edmonton, I'd be looking at them as a Plan D - now.

Or make a trade with a team not named the Ottawa Senators. Marleau, Jokinen (although I'm sure Edmonton and Calgary don't enjoy each other). Come to think of it, most of these guys have NTC and probably won't want to go to Edmonton.

Facepalm What a mess, but you can certainly see why they're still panting after Heatley.

Cheechoo to Edmonton. That would be a start. He doesn't have a NTC - so he...doesn't have a choice. Smile

They absolutely need to do something now. Sorry Edmonton, but I really don't think you're getting Dany, so you need to do something and quick.

I think they'll be interested right up until Prick is traded. There's a huge dropoff between who is left in the UFA market and Prick. Edmonton has been craving a true superstar for awhile now. They had one in Pronger but they haven't had a true superstar at forward since the dynasty crumbled. Katz wants to make a big splash. Murray needs to find a way to string Tambellini along until he can convince Prick to agree to a trade there. Then once he does, convince Tambellini that the offer is going to have to be Cogs, Gilbert, and either a 2010 1st or Eberle. Otherwise, we'll trade Prick to the Sharks.

I don't think Heatley will play at all this year. I think the effects of the car accident in Atlanta are wreaking havoc on his psyche right now, rendering him incapable of accepting criticism and having an overwhelming desire to completely avoid confrontation. PTSD can devastate a person

Really? 4 years later it rears it's ugly head?

I'm not disagreeing, what he went through must have been hell, but do you really think he's suffering from that?

Definitely. Where's Jaromir Jagr? I thought he was hot to trot to play for the Oilers?

I really hate these NTC's and NMC's. This won't be the last problem they have with these. They should be eliminated. Anyone is fair game, period.

I swear to God I was thinking that last night. Cogs, Gilbert and Eberle. No? Oh...okay, guess we'll trade him somewhere else. What? You're in? Nice.

Probably waiting to see if he'll get paid to stay in Russia this season. I would think that if he has a hunch that getting paid will be an issue, he'll be back in Pittsburgh, on a sweetheart of a deal for a year or two.

Alfie? Volchenkov? These are the guys that actually deserve one. They want to raise their families here and not have to uproot them without having a say.

I can see the NTC, the NMC are ridiculous.

I would hope that in the future, Murray avoids them at all costs. Push hard for a limited one if you have too, but a blanket NTC/NMC really handcuffs a team, as we've seen twice now.
