A NMC means you can't demote or trade a player without his approval. The Sens couldn't send him down to the AHL ever.
I'm pretty sure a NMC means you can't put him on waivers. I'll look into the official CBA, but i'm pretty sure i'm right about this one.
Look it up, I'm pretty sure the NMC disallows the team's ability to waive, demote to the minors or trade a player without his approval.
NMC = a no-movement clause = you can't move the player ANYWHERE. Not waivers, not the minors, not to another team in the NHL. Trade him where he wants, buy him out, or let him play. Those are your only options with a player with a NMC.
that's the thing, it doesn't say that... It says he can't be placed on waivers, can't be loaned, and can't be traded... Being sent to Bingo to start the season, legally, doesn't fall into any of those categories. It's an absolute waste of money, fine, but I do believe we have the legal right to do so.
I'm basing this on precedent. The Leafs couldn't do squat with McCabe. If they could have found a way to assign him to the Marlies before the season started.
I know the CBA wording doesn't explicitly deal with this, but I'm quite confident that it wouldn't be an option.
Either way, it shouldn't be an option. The last thing we need is to have this rotting away our farm system. Plus, what a nice welcome to the new coach, whoever it ends up being: "So, here's your desk, here's your whistle, aaaaannnnd here's your disgruntled cast-offHave fun!"
Technically, if you can send to the AHL, why stop there... I hear the ECHL is a nice league to play in too... :^^^^:
