Sens are a playoff team now I believe, but its pretty obvious where we stand compared to everyone else in the conferance.
We can beat Pittsburgh. If we can get into the playoffs, we have just as good of chance as any, depending on injuries and all that.

I agree. If the team makes the playoffs this year (and I expect they will), it will mean they have put the majority of their difficulties behind them, have adopted the system under Clouston, and have proven effective enough at playing it that they finish among the top 8 teams in the conference.

If they do that, the Sens have as good a chance as any to advance past the first round.

Deal in September? :^^^^: Good, good. Keep us waiting until the very last second.

They don't really give any reason for that statement, though... Seems like nothing more than baseless speculation. I could say the same thing: Well, Melnyk says a deal can come anytime, but there seems to be no indication that Heatley will waive to go to Edmonton. I wouldn't expect a deal anytime sooner than August 13th at noon.

...

It doesn't mean anything. Its just stating one of a thousand different possibilities.

That is extremely optimistic. You guys are basically saying we can take out the cup champs in a 7 game series, which would make us a legit cup contender. The Sens are not even close to a cup contender at this point.

we wont be winning any cups N4L but there could be a chance of getting past the first round i think the best we could hope for is making it to the second round no we are not a contender but there is actually solid goaltending in ottawa (wow i have waited so long to say that)
and with or withou heatley i think we may have more than one scoring line so it does lead to some optimism especially afte last year and a half

If we play Pitts in the 1st round, good luck stopping Crosby and Malking for 7 games. They are the same team that absolutly trampelled us in 4 games 2 years ago, only better.

Only way Ottawa wins a 1st round series is if they finish 4th or 5th, no way are they better then any of the top teams in the 3 divisions. Wsh, Bos, and Pitts would run The Sens show. All of those teams have consistantly gotten better the last 2 playoffs, 1 won the cup. Those teams are on the rise, Ottawa is stuck in pergitory for now.

Don't you recall we were without Alfie, Kelly and Fisher that series and in big time turmoil. We've shown more often than not that we can beat Pittsburgh and stop Crosby and Malkin.

The regular season and the playoffs are absolutly 2 different animals. If we hit Pitts in the 1st round as much as I would be pulling for Ottawa, Ill put a tons of smart money on The Pens.

We'll see I guess, we swept them the year before. There's no way of actually knowing what will unfold. I think Ottawa is going to be a battle tested team this year and I for one have tons of optimism going into this year. I'll wait for all those bandwagoneers to join me later.

Dont mistake bandwagon jumpers for being realisitic with their expectations.

As for Pitts, every year since being in the playoffs they have improved while Ottawa, since facing Pitts as been on the decline.

Pens lost in the 1st round
Stanley Cup Finalist
Stanley Cup Champs

Sens Stanley Cup finalist
Swept in 1st round
Missed playoffs completly

Again, there is absolutly nothing to say The Sens have a shot against The Pens in a 7 game series. I'll be cheering for Ottawa all the way, but short of a lot of things going against The Pens and everything going for The Sens, then there is no way Ottawa can compete with The Pens at this point.

And what happens if Pittsburgh has Crosby and Malkin injured?
And what happens if Washington has Ovechkin and Varlamov injured?
And what happens if Boston has Chara and Thomas injured?

Is was only a year and half ago we were swept in the playoffs because Alfie and Fisher were injured for the playoffs.

It was less then a year ago we didnt even have a shot to be swept. Seriously, expectations in Ottawa are way too high at this point.

Pitts is head and shoulders better then Ottawa, it's not even close. Anyone who says otherwise has the homer glasses strapped on waaaaaay too tight.

What's more likely? Leclaire and Fisher being injured for the playoffs, 2 of any of the guys you mentioned. Even Alfi is more injury prone then all of those guys. Seriously, lets come back down to earth.

Also, how am I negative? How is saying "The Sens wont beat The Cup champs in a 7 game series" negative?

I've always been 100% REALISTIC, not negative. Get it right.

People want to talk about playoffs, awesome, I think we will make it. People want to talk about Spezza turning it around, great, I think he can right now.

Dont blow smoke up each others asses and say The Sens can beat The Champs as is. I could beat GSP if he breaks his leg and I land a BS shot on the chin too.

Who said we could beat Pittsburgh "as is"???

The good thing is..."as is" never happens. Can you get that through your thick skull?

You're right, chances are one of Fisher, Alfi, or Leclaire would be injured before Crosby and Malkin.

I love how I tell the truth and you basically cant take it, hahaha. If I was a Leafs fan you're the guy that says "you just hate The Sens" or "worry about your own team". Well, Sens are my team and unless everything goes their way this season and in the playoffs and everything goes against the better teams, Sens are a one and done in the playoffs.

I just hope you are not a bookie, because you would probably be broke.

Well, I don't think anyone is arguing that the sens are not comparable to any of the big 3 you mentioned in the east.  Thing is, we don't know what this team is going to look like at the start of training camp.  Throw in a deal or two somewhere along the way that works out well for the sens, then the odds are starting to even out.  Even with a decent return on Heatley, I still don't think anyone can argue, the sens would still be a ways off.  There's a reason why teams that are thrown together in a hurry don't do well.  All 3 of the teams Neeley mentions are teams that have been built from the ground up.  A sweeet return for Heatley certainly rights the ship but we've got a lot of sailing to do before we're talkin with the big boys.  Now, after that speel, I still wouldn't say there's absoloutely no way we could beat one of those teams in a 7 gamer....you just never know...95% to 5% maybe...but still possible...
