With the departure of Heatley its time for a new fresh start all over. 2007 is over, lets move on. Comrie isnt what he used to be, not even close.

I agree, we don't need Comrie.

I cant stand Comrie as a player. He does everything "ok" offensivly. Nothing special, doesnt bring anything really to the table, and is beyond injured. Defensivly he is useless.

Move on, save yourself the time, money, and frustration.

Leave that COmrie spot open for someone to get an opportunity. I can almost garentee that there will be a plug somewhere along the line we can put in.

Dont forget about Keller either, he may very well surprise.

Let's do this Burns, Bouchard, 1st rounder thing. I love the idea.

I love that trade too but do you think Heatley would waive his NTC to go to Minnesota?

Honestly, with all the talk so far, its not the out of wack. I think The Sens are really going to get a ransom for this guy.

Well.... it took 2 and 1/2 hours, but I finally made my way through 65 pages of posts. Smile

For trading partners, EDM, LA, STL, VAN, and MIN make the most sense to me.

As for trading parts, any deal for Heatley will have to include a high 1st rounder in this year's draft + blue chip prospect at forward OR D + top-6 forward OR top-3 D. Spread the wealth.

For those who think I'm dreaming, look at what BM got for Meszaros: a late 1st rounder + Kuba (a 2/3 D for sure) + a mid-level prospect. For MESZAROS, who has about 1/19th of the sexiness factor of a Heatley.

So, is EDM's 1st + Gilbert OR one of Gagner or Cogliano + Eberle, or LA's 1st + Frolov + JJ or maybe one of Hickey or Teubert, too much to ask for? Diddle no. Are you kidding me? Heatley will bring in a king's random. Speaking purely from an offensive perspective, in terms of what he brings to the table in terms of goals / points, he's next in line after the NHL's holy trinity of Crosby-Ovechkin-Malkin. That's no exaggeration, either.

I'm not happy about this situation, to be honest, but I have no doubt that we're going to clean up with this deal, especially with BM behind the wheel. Diddle this Dustin Penner noise. No magic beans here, please. This is the GM that turned an unsigned, whiny Meszaros into a signed Kuba, Campoli, and Picard (who too many people have given up on already), after all. Please, mofos.

Why? At potentially $2-million per season on a two year contract, we could be getting a 30-30 guy. You need low-money, high-skill guys on your team to compete.

Comrie will NEVER be a 30-30 guy. Too slow, too injured.

Actually he got exactly 30 goals and 30 assists in 2005-06 in Phoenix.

Agreed. I think we'll get a nice package for sure. I think timing may have alot to do with it though. I'd love to see Murray put something together on or just before draft day. The longer this thing drags out, the less it benefits the Sens, imo.

I just caught up on the latest posts.

Dustin Penner!!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!? WTF guys?

There is no way he should be part of this deal. Lowe took a gamble and it blew up in his face. Why don't we try and Avery while we're at it. I hear NYR are offering up Gomez or Drury. They also have reasonable contracts. Maybe a reunion with our ol' buddy Wade?

I don't think people are suggesting Penner as the centrepiece of a deal with Edmonton. More of a salary balancing measure.

We wouldn't save one cent in salary or cap space. That is part of the appeal of dealing Heatley for me. Burns is awesome. but Bouchard is meh. I'd much rather have Burns, Clutterbuck and their 1st. I've got a borderline embarassing man-crush on Clutterbuck. He hits everything.

Oh ya for sure, but we are dealing one of our top players (even in the league). I don't think we should need to do as big of a favour as that. I get taking salary back, but not like that...not like that DOH!

I am okay with that too, and yeah, am on board with Neely as well, we can get a King's ransom for this guy, and he wants to go West, Minnesota is west, get him out of here. They may need someone to replace Gaborik and they will be desperate.

Wow, I go away to a kid's soccer game and this thread grows another 20 pages. I tried reading a few last night, but fuhgeddaboutit.

Over in the other thread (TOP priority) I threw down some numbers. It would appear that the loss of scoring from the departures of Vermette and Heatley can be offset by the improved SV% in Leclaire/Elliot versus Gerber/Auld. That, and Regin getting 15 goals replacing Vermette as the 3rd line center, and whoever replaces Heatley on the top line getting 25.

So on the surface we don't need to do much to replace Heatley's output. That said, there are other issues to consider:

1. Quick strike. Heatley can score from nowhere in a split second. He's dangerous and the opposition knows it. This means more attention will be now paid to Spezza and Alfie.

2. Powerplay? Don't really know this, but how were Heatley's numbers on the PP? I know he was relegated to the 2nd unit, but was he still pretty strong there? If so, and if our PP efficiency suffers as a result, then opposing teams will take liberties against our top players.

3. Who replaces whoever replaces Heatley? My number crunching did not go to the secondary analysis. If Heatley is replaced internally -- for example, Fisher or Foligno moving up -- then who replaces that player on the 2nd line? There's bound to be some lost production ther, as well. Unless, of course, the replacement comes from the outside.

So, in summary, I don't believe there is any need to spend the $7.5M right away on anyone. Certainly, we'll need to replace two players (Vermette and Heatley -- I don't think Comrie is coming back, otherwise he could "replace" Vermette). Thos two players will have to pull up a bit of the slack, the rest would come from the improved goaltending. And also, let's not forget the back-end. I'm not talking about Kuba, because his stats will go down with the team's reduced goal production (he's very much an assist guy). Getting a full season out of Campoli and Bell should get us an extra 10 goals, and if Karlsson sticks around, surely he will improve on Smith's production.

Think his replacement (quote on quote) will be included in the deal for him.

No thanks on that one, Comrie can walk and we can do better/younger.

Am hoping Karlsson does stick around, but I guess that depends on his size and if he can handle the NHL game.
