And at his age, to put up those numbers.

I know he digressed in the defensive zone, but he's only 2 years removed from a Norris nomination (unless I dreamt that).

You're not dreaming, but it's actually pretty difficult to justify that nomination.

He's just not good defensively. Not good.

I know, I've been reading over on hfboards and they want him real bad. Lets hope their GM feels the same way and will do whatever it takes to land him.

I've only been tooting that horn since, what, this thread started?

No team wants a Dany Heatley more than the Edmonton Oilers do. Period.

As soon as people start getting that idea through their heads, we can really start speculating about a possible return.

I think thats a myth and a fallacy. There's actually no logic in that theory. Any attempt at using it against Murray is countered with "Fine, I'm not trading him."

The only way this hurts us is if the timing is off. I'm of the belief that Murray purposely leaked this story and chose the timing. I'm concerned, however, that the timing allows for too much time to pass before we can even make a trade.

If I understand things correctly, than we shouldn't be able to make a move until one week past the end of the Finals. That means that over 10 days will have past from the time this went public to the earliest time we can move him.

Is that just enough time to weed out the bs and narrow the field to a serious 3-4 teams? I suspect thats what Murray was hoping (assuming he actually did leak it) and I'm hopeful it works, but I worry that it gives teams too much time to second guess...

Murray knows whats up, though and is more than capable of biding his time juuuust right

That line of thinking is wrong unfortunately. Think about it. The only way Dany Heatley comes on to the bidding market, is if he demands a trade: 1. because he's a superstar in the league and 2. because he has a NMC.

I mean, just think about it logically.

Besides, if Murray was on the phone with a GM looking for a piece of the puzzle to be added to a potential trade, and the GM refused, saying "well, you know, everyone knows he wanted a trade" then Murray says "well, you know, Diddle you. I'll flip my 50 goal man to someone else who, idiot."

In a situation like this, when you're the team with the best player in the trade, you can't lose leverage. You just can't. It's not possible and it doesn't make any sense.

Neely4Life wrote:Well taking Penner back is a serious possibility if there are salary issues. If you put him in a similar situation like he had in Anahiem with Alfi and Spezza, you might get some decent production out of him.

That would be totally dependant on The Sens getting back the 10th overall, Eberle, Gagne, and perhaps Gilbert. Maybe send Lee or Picard the other way.

Exactly and I have to say that the idea of a Foligno-Fisher-Penner line excites me...

They're excited and they've come to terms with it being Gilbert, Eberle and a 1st. At least. cool)

Penner's big, but he's not exactly Lucic. I'm going to take it from the Oiler fans I've talked to who can't stand him, and say that we shouldn't be charging after him either.

IMHO Sometimes, it's not just a case of needing a change of scenery.

Let's start pretty soon, looks like they're the right fit.

So:

Eberle, Gilbert, 10th Overall, Petry?

I still think the perfect trade for the Senators is Tom Gilbert, Andrew Cogliano, Jordan Eberle and Edmonton's first round pick (10th overall) for Heatley + possibly a spare piece to either balance the trade, balance the roster spaces, or balance salary.

In one offseason we'll have added a guy who could very well put up 45-60 points on the backend, a second line center with strong, strong two-way play capable of putting up upwards of 50+ points, a mid-level prospect forward with potentially ridiculous amounts of skill (although, from what I read about him, he is quite a question mark in terms of the impact he'll have at the NHL level) and we'll add two of Kulikov, OEL, Kadri, Kassian, Schroeder.

Our team is instantly better. Perhaps even more well-rounded than the team that went to the Cup Finals in 07.

If we take back Penner, it's as a cap favour, but we're no better off if we add Gilbert as well. No way.

Ya, I dont think Heatley being available hurts at all, in fact, if Heatley was being a douche behind closed doors, only saying he will go here and there, it might have been leaked by The Sens and Murray

It's my deluded sense of Heatley's worth from reading our proposals talking here, but meh.

The 10th over-all is a nice pick, but it's not the same as a pick like LA's. Jordan Eberle's potential is a smaller, worse Heatley. And for whatever reason, I've never been a huge Gilbert fan.

In terms of finding a mentor for Karlsson, I'd rather nab Visnovsky. The problem there is that he's older.

You're going for Cogliano as well as Gilbert, Eberle and the 1st rounder? I dunno if that's gonna work.
