Not only does he have to approve the deal but also make a list of teams he can be dealt to. The number of teams we can trade with are actually very limited because of that fact.

Those clauses only give the power to the player to prevent him from being traded. He's requesting out and that gives Ottawa the power. Simply put, you want out, we get to send you the place that makes the most sense for us, otherwise stay where you don't want to be.

Advantage Murray. I posted a long time ago that I saw either Spezza or Heatley going out to LA for dmen and their pick, and I always thought it would be Spezza because the NTC doesn't kick in until next year. Maybe I was wrong.

I always thought with all the C's that L.A. had and the fact that Frolov was the only real good LW they had that Heatley would be a great fit, but I never saw him waiving his NMC.

Time will tell, but Ottawa could end up with something like,

Heatley and Ottawa's 9th
for

Johnson, Tuebert/Hickey and LA's 4th

I dont like you buy you're right here.

The trade, not so much.

Heatley and Lee for Tubert, Frolov and LA 1st. That makes a lot of sense on a lot of levels. Johnson is a guy to stay away from.

Senschirp has word of this too, let the speculation begin, Murray can field the calls, just can't make any moves until the playoffs are done and that 1 week grace period.

One is their star rookie who could end up being a super star. The other is their captain who is signed to the best deal in the league, next 5 years at 3.2 mil.

Frolov coming back with Tuebert and their 1st should be enough to get it done.

Seriously, if we add Teubert, Jared Cowen and MPS in one day, we probably have the best group of prospects in the league :*:

Karlsson, Wiercioch, Tubert, O'Brien, Regin, two of MPS/Kane/Kassian/ pick what ever 4-10 player you want.

Our goaltending is set for the next decade perhaps, we have Spezza, who now is FORCED to be more mature and a leader, absolutly forced to and Heatley leaving will make him a better player. Who knows who we add through free agency.

This is a great day for Ottawa.

Maybe we can get rid of all the Germans in one trade.

I will reserve the enthusiasm to see who we get back in return, who has the advantage here, Murray or other GM's? basically who is dealing out of a point of weakness?

And you know what, I'm so happy that we have Bryan Murray working this trade...hardly a more savvy, veteran general manager in the entire league than this man.

We better get a Diddle boat for this guy...this trade could set up this team for the next decade+.

When a back to back 50 goal guy is on the market who hasnt even hit 30 yet, its advantage to what ever team has him.

Heatley's return is way bigger than Spezza's, I'm so happy right now I could cry.

I hope we don;t add anybody through free agency though. That cap space will be used for the next 2-3 years to resign our young guns.

Depends what GM you get. The Oilers GM might be dealing from a position of weakness, they've wanted a superstar forward forever now. They might just be willing to deal the whole goddamn farm system for this guy.

Other teams' GMs might be on a more even footing.

I just can't see how Ottawa is in a position of weakness here. We're dealing a 50+/100+ goal/point player...there isn't a team in the league that won't call to see what it'll take. You wouldn't be doing your job as a GM if you didn't.

N4L,

You and I butt heads all the time, but am I hearing you right. You believe that Spezza would be a better player than he is now if Heatley leaves?

That sounds like an endorsement, or at least as much of an endorsment as I've ever heard you give him.

If that's the case, I can't believe I'm saying this, but I agree with you. I think Heatley going goes a long way to helping the morale of this team and forcing Spezza to be a better player/learder/man. I'm not sure you'd get Tuebert/Frolov, and LA's first for Heatley, but if that's the offer then Murray should be fired for even thinking about it.

Ottawa is definitely in position of force. For the simple reason that 10+ teams are gonna line up to get him.

PKC, you're bang on. Murray already made that deal for his franchise goaltender with perhaps another one in the wings.

If we get 1 good young D prospect from LA, our D is set for the next decade, whether it is Hickey or Tubert (prefere Tubert) our D is set for the next 10 years as well, not to mention a guy like Phillips, A train and Kuba brining them along.

If that indeed happens, with our top 5 pick from LA we grab one of Kane/Schenn/MPS, with our 9th, who knows, maybe another D like OEL. The Sens will be the deepest in the Eastern Conferance when it comes to prospects and still have a guy like Spezza who is now forced to be something I dont think he can be. (at least on his own).

*hands you a box of tissues* thanks for clearing that up for me, really looking forward to this deal to see what we get in return, our prospect/depth pool can increase tenfold with this deal alone.

This wasn't the guy I expected to see out of here, but, one of them had to go.

Make a pitch for Hossa. Get as many pieces as possible for Heatley (quality guys)

We need guys that WANT to be here, Heatley clearly does not. He showed it all last season too.

Bingo.

IVe said, from day 1, that all things being equal, I deal Heatley. I cant stand Spezza's game at this point but trading Heatley is basically like hanging Spezza over the edge of a building, he can fight for his life or die.

It was always about what was best for Ottawa with me, always, and getting the biggest cap hit off the books allows Ottawa more breathing room than ever thought possible.
