The Rangers would like to move either Chris Drury or Scott Gomez and would also likely make a call on Heatley

I just can't see the Rags moving either of those two contracts or the Wendy Redden contract. They are literally going to have to sweeten the deal almost to the point of absurdity.

One of the All Hockey Talk All the Time threads had 990 posts. This one is around 725.

"If" he improves his work ethic on the ice, and "if" he gets in better shape, and "if" he gels with Spezza and Alfredsson, and "if" he proves not to be a one year wonder, he's still not even close to Heatley.

That wouldnt be the point of the trade, Penner is simply a salary dump that could work out for the sens with some luck. Not the real part of the deal.

I like Gomez a lot...for 4 million bucks. For 7.3, he's a joke.

Yeah, I understood that Penner would be a salary dump. There would be other jewels to add to the collection.

Well he does pot 15 or so a year. Unless 15 is the new 50, $7.3 is a massive overpayment. It's not like he's the league's greatest playmaker.

I tell ya, this Fan 590 is the cat's meow. No Jim Rome crap, almost wall to wall hockey.

Scotty Bowman was on and he said there will no longer be a 'top line' of 3 guys in the NHL, it'll now be 'dynamic duos' because of the cap. He said that teams need to have 2 great players on line 1, 2 'very good' players on line 2 and then balance it after that with grinders and character.

He also said that one of the ways to spread the money out was on a D-man who can log 25 minutes a game and make an impact. But he said, never have 3 high priced players - and never ever have them on the same line. Make sure one of them is an elite D-man.

So, this kinda happened right in time. Besides, I think the 'dynamic duo' has always been Alfie and Spezza, not, as many believe, Heatley and Spezza.

Interesting stuff.

I would never take him for 7.3, I can't stress that enough, but I think he's a real nifty playmaker - a real solid, character guy. If I was the Rangers, he would be the last guy I would move out of the big salaries (Lundqvist doesn't count, 'cause he's franchise), but I'd move Drury and Redden waaaaay before Gomez.

That's just me personally though. At least Gomez is a Cup winner.

Technically Drury is too. He won with the Avs in 2001 but I see your point.

Oh yeah, I keep forgetting about him and Tanguay. What a crazy team that was. Wow.

Depends on what deal we get.

We've all known for a while that what we have going in regards to so much money in those guys and no depth wasn't going to work. And I'm happier dealing Heatley than Spezza.

Actually, I should rephrase:

Are you pissed at Heatley?

It's definitely not a nice way to reward us for a $45 million contract and an alternate captaincy. I can't really hate him, though, because none of us seems to know the exact reasons.

What I hate is how public this is. I think that gives leverage to other teams.

Heatley's agent was on Healthy Scratches. We can safely say Heatley didn't like the way he was used. That's what his agent said.

I don;t know if this has been mentionned, I don't have time to read 56 pages, but his agent said Heatley can be traded in the Eastern Conference, that's not a problem.

Ya, but will Murray trade him in the East?

Even his agent couldnt really back him up, everyone knows this is because Heatley is the definition of a primmadonna.

That was so embarrassing for the agent. Bad job, bad position to be in, the whole 9.

An acquaintance of mine said he was never going to tell me that he ran into Heatley after a Boston game last year - and it was apparently NOT pretty. 100% reliable. Not the kind of Dung I would make up.

There are things about Heatley that we've only begun to find out I think.

Nah, I don't like that one. That's quantity for quality there. A future #4 defenceman, a future second line forward and the 16th/17th over-all?

Pass. To get Heatley, we're talking one of Oshie/Berglund/Petro/Boyes. Otherwise I'm pretty sure we could get a better deal elsewhere.

That makes me very excited. I knew it was the case, but it's like Asq is the BS detector from time to time. I was expecting a Penner, 1st round - and we'd be lucky. :^^^^:

I'm probably more disconnected than you are. But if we get Penner and a first rounder I want Murray gone. 🇬🇬

Although I like the idea of another top-10 pick.

Now, what do you like better, 9 + 10 or trade those 2 for a top 5 Wink
