Nash makes more sense that any of us imagine. What if Columbus can't re-sign him? At least this way they get a comparable player locked for 5 more years. If he waives to go to Columbus, I would see this as a distinct possibility.

No. It doesn't.

Heatley only waives to go to Columbus if he's going there to play with Nash.

heatley wont know who he is traded for until the deal is done so BM could tell him he will be playing in columbus with nash when in actuality nash is coming this way

Those numbers are a little out of date. Preissing is now in the minors, so take 2.75 off. We would be taking some salary back as well.

35M over 5 years is pretty nice price for a prolific goal scorer, especially if you are tied with the NYI for the 4th lowest goals per game.

Also, the numbers listed on both nhlnumbers.com and nhlscap.com include bonuses, which had to count against the cap this year whether attained or not. Next year the bonuses can be carried forward if attained, but do not need to be accounted for in current year, now that the CBA has been extended.
