Nash makes more sense that any of us imagine. What if Columbus can't re-sign him? At least this way they get a comparable player locked for 5 more years. If he waives to go to Columbus, I would see this as a distinct possibility.

Heatley only waives to go to Columbus if he's going there to play with Nash.
heatley wont know who he is traded for until the deal is done so BM could tell him he will be playing in columbus with nash when in actuality nash is coming this way
When Heatley "waives," its not like he just waives his hand... He is shown the deal and the team prior to signing over his movement rights.
