He's in Atlanta as an AC.

The interesting part of that article is that Richardson declined the coaching job and Clouston is looking for another former player to fill that position. Smith is not yet "former" unless those early rumours of a career-ender develop into reality. So, who else could fit the job description?
Maybe they're bringing Yashin back Laughing3 You can never have a shortage of good influences on your prospects...

If it's not Smith, then I'm thinking it might not be someone with any relation to Ottawa at all. Other than Richardson, I can't remember the last player to retire as an Ottawa Senator.

Maybe its someone Clouston has a history with?

If Yashin were willing to take 2.5 or something on a one year deal, I'd bring him in as a second line centre. Ahhhhh! I still maintain that Fisher needs to play the wing. A Heatley-Spezza-Fisher line would be awesome.

I am not ever against Shaun Van Allen joining the Sens organization in any capacity, was one of my favorite players from first watching the Sens hit the ice.

What a great idea Shaun Van Allen and Jason York are. Either one brings the requisite playing resume to be a good coach. They worked hard every shift, they're both defensively responsible - especially Van Allen as a forward.

Either one of those would be nice - if they have some background and have a desire to coach.

Sp00nz!

Although I'd love to see *that* top line, you can't put Yashin on a line with Alfie. It would be heart and anti-heart, like matter and anti-matter. A big explosion and the world of a clean up.

Also, he would not go for $2.5M and I would never want to give it to him.

From what I'm told, he'll be coaching one of the Kanata (KMHA) competitive hockey teams - I'd assume that he has a kid around that age then?

Heh i didn't think about that, there is probably still some bad blood between Yashin and Alfie. I do remember in game 4 of the first series against Buffalo that had Alfie setting up Yashin for an OT goal, but that was long ago.

Im just desperate for a 60 point guy, i believe Yashin could do that. I don't think it would happen, but it would be a nice story Smile

Nice?

I wonder if he'd survive the first drive to the rink.
I'm sure there are more than a few fans that would be quite ready to run him off the road...he certainly did his best to piss off a few people while he was here.

After the hold out it was actually Vinnie Prospal who threw Yashin under the bus. When asked if the team would welcome Yashin back when he returned to the lineup, he was the only one who called it like it was. And for that he gor promptly traded, or at least that's what I thought at the time. He did not toe the company line which the others all did "That's part of the business side of hockey, and Yashin is a skilled player who will help this team win games."

Prospal gained a lot of respect from me that day.

Yeah but, the fans that bought Yashin Jersey's can now take the Duct tape off of the name and wear them proudly to the games again Wink
