Even at $900K or whatever he's getting, he can play solid energy-line minutes, can stand in front of the goalie on the PP, and fill-in when one of Philchenkov gets a penalty. If you waive him and replace him with a league-minimum salary, how much are you really saving? Peanuts. Best case scenario is he impresses in camp and some GM likes what his scouts see.

That's basically it. Unless they can trade him and use Z.Smith or O'Brien, I don't see the huge benefit of waiving Schubert.

Trading him outright, that's fine. Waiving him? Not so much IMO.

I believe they already have 8 defencemen signed next year. If they waive him, they don't need to bring in a cheaper replacement. So really, they save the 900k.

as a D-man with bell we already have 8 players that i'd rather see not counting karlsson. as a foward, i hear everyone saying how we got to bring up some youth? well it's not going to help by keeping shubert . i say ship him any way you can.

Nobody is arguing about shipping Schubert out. The concern was about waiving him.

As for the log-jam on D, a lot of them are not really top-six for a contending team. Not that we are contending any time soon, but eventually those players will not be here.

Not sure if Tim Murray wants to retain Fata. Maybe, but he's nothing special. As for Mauldin, he was the team MVP and when asked if he'd return, he said that he would like to take a shot at a team's NHL roster. He would be a great addition up here with Bass, but we already have 894 3rd and 4th liners...so, he probably won't be back unfortunately.

I developed quite the little crush on Kelly after that film. What a beautiful woman she is - Travolta is a lucky man.

If by 'lucky' you mean gay then I agree...

not that there is anything wrong with that....

Kelly Preston is smokin'. I remember her as a young boy in the movie Mischief, when she showed her cans. Then in Space Camp, she was terribly hot. Ahhh....the good old days. Too bad she's become a lunatic Scientologist in her adult life.

It seems that a Schubert thread can't hold everyone's attention. Mix in talk of hot chicks, potentially gay movie icons and oila.... Thread hits 8 pages +

I tried bringing this conversation back to hockey and more specifically Schubert, but apparently that topic was only interesting for about half an hour.

OK, getting back off topic:

Wikipedia bans the Church of Scientology:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2009/05/29/wikipedia_bans_scientology/

Now, the weird part. When I read that (it was posted on SlashDot) I immediately thought of this thread and tried to google it. I tried using the "site:gmcentralhockey.forumotion.net" tag to search only this domain, and tried keywords like "scientologist" and "kelly preston".

Guess what? Nothing came up. *Nothing*. I tried many different keywords found in this thread, even exact quotes (putting a search key in quotes finds that exact phrase) and this thread never comes up in a google search. Try it.

So, what does this mean? Well, I googled "google scientology" and came up with these:

Google/Scientology + Censorship

GOOGLE responded to a query from Andreas Heldal-Lund with:
"We removed certain specific URLs in response to a notification
submitted by the Religious Technology Center and Bridge Publications
under section 512(c)(3) of the the Digital Millenium Copyright Act
(DMCA). Had we not removed these URLs, we would be subject to a claim
for copyright infringement, regardless of its merits."

Google pulls anti Scientology links
Google was accused Wednesday of effectively removing from the
Internet a Web site that is critical of the Church of Scientology after
it deleted links to some of the site's pages from its search engine.

Google yanks anti-church sites

They may be weird, but they've got clout.
