The number is meaningless, why bring it up at all, much less use it to define a player or comment on his performance? It's equivocating at best, dishonest at worst.

I didn't slam anyone. All I said is that Vermette will not get the same opportunity as Fisher because he makes far less and I used the quoted the salary. If I had quoted the cap number, it would still mean the same thing.
Sometimes stating facts appear to be a slam because the facts aren't pretty.

Exactly. And the fact is that Vermette has had all kinds of opportunity to grab a top 6 spot and has repeatedly failed. That's not Mike Fisher's fault, or Fisher's salary's fault. That's just a slammin', unpretty fact.
Do I think Vermette can be a top-6 player? Yes. But he didn't do himself any favours with his first 25 games this year.
