Indeed. They are at the cap with 18 players signed. They are indeed in the worst position of all the teams rumoured to be part of this three-way.jamvan wrote:No doubt, not too mention they don't have much under contract at the moment either.shabbs wrote:Sharks are going to have to dance with someone else at the same time in order to move salary.

In order for this to make sense for San Jose to acquire Heatley, they are going to have to get rid of over $10M in salary in order to have space for Heatley and to fill in their roster.

A salary for salary trade with Ottawa only makes sense if they are able to dump other salary elsewhere (ie: Montreal) to make room or fill in their roster.Flo The Action wrote:i agree that they have to make room but it not have to be with us and right now.
depending on who we get back if it's michalek 4.333.333 and ehrhoff 3.1, we're not far(less then 100.000) from heatleys 7.5.
to be honest it's us that will have to make room.
Gainey looking to trade, but rumors don't add up
TheFourthPeriod.com
Canadiens GM Bob Gainey would love to pull the trigger on another trade to bolster his lineup, but as the Montreal Gazette reports, he isn't about to make a move that doesn't make sense.
The Canadiens have been linked to a three-way trade between the San Jose Sharks and Ottawa Senators.
The deal would see the Habs receive center Patrick Marleau, the Sharks receive sniper Dany Heatley, and the Senators acquire center Tomas Plekanec and goalie Jaroslav Halak or defenseman Roman Hamrlik.
While the move certainly helps the Sharks, gives the Canadiens another solid centerman and provides the Senators with some quality depth, all three teams are up against the salary cap and the Gazette points out the move puts the Habs back up against it.
In fact, Sharks GM Doug Murray told the Ottawa Citizen that Montreal's involvement in a trade was news to him.
"Don't know what the rumor is, but nothing new that I am aware of," he said.
The Gazette indicates Gainey has left the door open for another major trade, having already acquired center Scott Gomez earlier in the summer.
But as of now, a source said a deal isn't imminent, and one involving the Sharks and Senators in a three-way swap does not appear likely.
i like halak but in no way do we need him! if we get hamrlik and plekanek this will be by far one of the worst scenarios. an overpriced D-man and a ok center with one year remaining on his contract.
NO WAY!
We're still over the cap in that scenario though... we could send Regin to Bingo (he's on a two-way after all) and we'd start the season with a 21-man roster having Schubert be the extra at both ends... and we'd be under the cap.Guest wrote:CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS

Yes, this is exactly as we sit right now.
See you in January Mr. Smith.. Now get yourself ready for the playoffs now that you are off LTIR and we can fit you under the cap.

if it was hamrlik at 3.8 plus a top 6 foward + prospect/1st, yeah maybe. but it's hamrlik at 5.5 or halak(which we don't need) and 1 year of plekanek... am i missing something?
