Because someone took retard pills that day and paid for it with his job.

Whether it was a bad trade or not that team wouldnt be close to what it is with Thornton.
you wanna share that crystal ball with the rest of us?

Nope, I just look at the tallent they developed with Thornton while he was there and without, simple as that.

Chara wouldnt be there, Savard wouldnt be there (who is ahead of Thornton in scoring). The team would not be the complete team they are with Thornton being the center peice, hell, Glen Murray may still be Thorntons right hand man.

finishing in the basement usually does help develop prospects

NMC.

Just this year and next though, then it becomes increasingly easier to trade him. Limited NTC, very limited NTC. It's almost as if Murray had a plan...

Then you're stuck with Spezza for the next 6, and if he continues along these lines he is now, its going to be a long 6 years.

Fact of the matter is if his play continues into next like it is now and he has a NTC for 6 years, this team wont win, not with him as the number 1 guy playing like he is. People will be furious.

Sure does. So does having the right people leading your team.

Does it not influence your decision making realizing that they had a bunch of monkeys running the Bruins for years and years and years and years? You think a capable GM wouldn't have been able to balance the roster without arbitrarily trading away one of the best hockey players in the universe in the prime of his life and career for some hockey sticks and a decent winger?

If I was gonna do it, you'd best believe that Chara and Pronger would be playing side by each right now - and between the two of them, they'd have necklaces of all the teeth they extracted from fancy little dudes from the East trying to get into the Bs zone.
