Ottawa's next captain...?

Well, with the Alfie extension, the clock has started ticking to the "next captain". If Alfie plays it out, we'll need a new captain for the 2013-2014 season. Yeah, that's far away but I'm sure it's in the back of everyone's mind... I know it is in mine.

Is Heatley the next logical choice? I can't see Spezza wearing the C anytime soon, or maybe ever to be honest. What about Phillips?

This is a tough one...

You can't say Spezza won't be ready for captaincy SIX YEARS from now...why is everyone so hard on this poor guy. He's been playing infinitely better this season already.

I have no idea.

Front runners for me are the usual suspects, Phillips, Fisher, Heatley. Let's put Foligno and Bass's names in there for good measure.

I think it'll be more like Spezza, Heatley or another UFA. Like a Jason Smith, but more down the road.

True... no one will know for sure until we're there, or closer to. Spezza can develop a lot in the next few years. My line of thought is that if both Heatley and Spezza are with us at that time, Heatley would be the logical choice. But, anything can happen. It certainly will be different...

I think in 6 years we'll hopefully see a major breakthrough in cloning genetic technology......

It's pretty clear to me that they're grooming Heatley to take over the "C". How else do you explain him getting it while Alfie was injured this season? My personal choices aside, I believe it will look something like this in 4 years.

C - Heatley
A - Phillips - Then possibly Fish or Volchie after Phillips leaves.
A - Spezza

yup seems about right...

Before Heater arrived I would have thought Spezza would take the C at some point but now I'm thinking it's gonna be Heater. Let's hope Alfie rubs off on him enough in 3 or 4 years that he is hard worker shift in shift out both on and off the ice. :D

Yeah hopefully, cause there are some nights where it looks like it's only Alfredsson playing out there...

In 4 years I hope Foligno is wearing an A ...

Alfie gets better every year. He's got another 10 in the tank.
