I hope Dorion gets on the phone and calls Sakic asap. Colorado's defense is insane and they're likely to lose someone good in the expansion draft. He should be offering up Brannstrom who is protected for Graves or see if they can somehow get Girard out of there. Price would be steep but Girard has a great contract and the Sens don't need to continue stockpiling picks

What a horrible trade that would be for Ottawa

If I’m Dorion it’s not sakic I’m contacting but Columbus. Apparently Jones isn’t interested in resigning.

You do your due diligence to find out if he’d resign with Ottawa.
Id give them this or next years 1st, Brannstrom and any other highly touted prospect not on the roster and not called Sanderson . Anyone else is up for grabs pretty much. ( Yup, that’s JBD, Pinto or Grieg and I’ll even thrown in Logan Brown for good measures)
We definitely have the pieces to make this trade work and Columbus could win big in this trade aslo.

The only problem would be would Jones sign an extension (and I guess how much).
He might take 7x8 mill.

Yeah, Jones would be an interesting target. I'm not sure he'd want to come here and sign long term, but that's the kind of defenceman we could use.

Dubas should do everything in his power to trade Marner for Jones. No NMC for Marner meaning he can't block a trade. Columbus will struggle to sign UFAs, and their prospects cupboards are bear. Not saying it would be a 1 for 1 but they could probably come up with something. Some pieces I could see included in a blockbuster:

To Toronto: Jones, Domi
To Columbus: Marner, Kerfoot, Liljegren

Toronto needs the cap space savings to both re-sign Jones and address their depth. There is also Hyman who needs a new contract and Reilly who is up for renewal after next season.

I hope you're not implying that it would make sense for us to trade for Marner. I agree he needs to get traded but not here. Seth Jones here. 100%. But he spent some of his childhood in Toronto when his dad played for the Raptors, and Toronto has more attractive pieces to make that trade happen.

I'd give up a fair amount to bring in Jonest but it would obviously need to come with an extension

I believe we were talking about a Seth Jones for Marner trade.

See, I’m not sure that’s the right move for Columbus.

Jones making it clear he doesn’t plan to resign makes it pretty clear where that team is at.
They shouldn’t be looking for an overhaul. They need a rebuild. Their cupboards are empty.

They need to trade Jones, get a feel for Werenski and laine and hit the restart button. They could get a lot of assets back over a two year period and make it a quick rebuild.

I’m not sure Mitch Marner is a guy I’d want here. Maybe. But I’d rather try and get Jones with a new deal. Of course that’s a sell job.

I'd totally do a trade for an extended Seth Jones. Marner and his cap hit is a hard no.

For Marner, the cap hit would be mostly irrelevant for the Sens. Leafs would pay his $9,608,000 signing bonus on July 1. So then he would be owed $24,800,000 over four seasons, which is an average of $6.2 million per year. The issue would be that it is mostly all in signing bonuses. However if you move Dadonov (without considering other pieces) as part of the deal, that's $11,500,000 going out the door, which would mean the net salary addition by bringing in Marner would only be $13,300,000 or $3,325,000 per year. Maybe Murray could be moved instead/as well. He played three seasons under Dubas in Soo.

He has shown to not be the best playoff guy, but in the regular season he'd be what we need. A playmaker with superstar offensive ability. And his remaining salary cost would be much less than a player of his caliber should make.

I want nothing to do with any high-paid players that can't perform in the playoffs. NOTHING.
