I agree. But it all depends on how they go forward with their current players/prospects.

Does Brannstrom ever get moved to the right? Does he get moved as part of a package for a young number 1C?
To me our current weaknesses are a top line C then someone that can play with Chabot.

There is a multiple of ways to adress this need. Both internally and by trade.

Might be intriguing to see if Dorion Makes a trade for a right hand D and let’s zaitsev exposed.
Some teams might be loosing a top 4 D in the expansion and could be partners.

On another note, apparently Chabot injured but not seriously but will likely be out for the remainder of the season.

I think this is a way to get JBD into the line up for the rest of the way and give Brannstrom a more prominent role.

Well I don't think it really matters which goalie we protect at this point. Looks like we have a stud in Gustavsson and I'd hate to lose Daccord too. No matter who we protect we're likely losing one or the other.

But I'm ready and willing to be surprised.

Yeah, I'm not expecting anything big this off-season beyond the RFA signings. My #1 want is a good defenceman.

Can always trade one before the draft. Or make a deal with Seattle that they won't take one of our goalies.

I don't think it's likely. There are a ton of goaltenders to pick from. Either way, we shouldn't give up anything. Let them pick whoever. We won't be worse off.

Tough to choose between them right now though, with Daccord's injury and then Gustavsson's strong play. You'd have to give the edge to protecting Gustavsson I think.

Definitely. Daccord had a significant injury after a *handful* of games at the NHL level. There are safer picks out there. That said, the Kraken is looking to get 2 starters and 2 backups -- and that's beside AHL depth. I doubt they would look at any of our goalies for the NHL starter's job but they could certainly look at them in terms of AHL/ECHL.

Of all we lose in the extension draft is one of our goalie prospects then I’m 100% fine with that.

That said, I wouldn’t be betting large that the player we lose to Seattle is a goalie prospect.

Vegas picked three goalies, and only one (MAF) actually stuck with the team to opening night.  Who Seattle takes from us will obviously depend heavily on who else is available from other teams, and which other players we are exposing.  Teams have to have their protection lists set by July 17, and then Seattle makes their picks on July 21.

So what is our goalie depth chart now?

1. Murray
2. Gustavsson
3. Daccord
4. Mandolese
5. Sogaard

Likely out this summer: Hogberg, Forsberg

So if we lose a goalie I would expect Ottawa to re-sign one of these two to a one-year NHL deal. If we don't lose a goalie I think our goaltending tandem is Murray and Gus next season. Plus, Seattle is probably looking at Jake Allen and Georgiev as their NHL goalies next season. Then there's Dallas with Bishop, Khudobin and Oettinger. So yes - lots of goalie options and I am not sure they're going to take one of ours unless it's Gus.

I think Seattle is more likely to take Logan Brown or another prospect with top-six upside like Abramov. Maybe they decide to take Watson or Tierney? I honestly think they roll the dice and take Brown.

I can't see them taking Logan Brown as I think we will have other exposed players with more value, but again, can't really make a decent prediction without seeing the entire list of exposed players from every time.

Am I missing something, why is Hogberg likely out this summer? He's RFA I believe.

Sens just signed Forsberg, so Hogberg is likely gone. He is an RFA but probably won't be retained.

How can they sign Forsberg and not retain Gustavson, that's ridicuous! I'm hoping they signed Forsberg and make a deal for Seattle to pick him up with a little extra, i.e. Logan Brown.

Huh? Signing Forsberg has nothing to do with Gustavsson. He’s here regardless unless he’s picked by Seattle

The point was to have the Kraken take Forsberg (no longer a UFA) and not Gus or Daccord.

I’m just not sure what you mean by “not retaining Gustavsson”

I think with what is exposed there is a chance they pick Logan Brown.

He’s not going to crack the line up here but could be seen as one of the better options available from what we leave unprotected. They don’t need to pick up 30 guys to play the NHL this season. They could easily walk away with 5-10 prospects from teams. Remember, there might be deal made with Seattle and other teams that sees Seattle winding up with more than one player and maybe they even grab one or twice guys from FA.

It’s impossible to tell without seeing the protected list and without seeing what deals are made.

I just thinks it’s more than likely they grab goalies from elsewhere than Ottawa.
