How much longer to October?

What exactly do you expect to pay a 3rd line player ? One thing your stats fail to show is what his speed does for the others on the ice, which is open up ice for his line mates. He has an elite skill that is sorely missing in the lineup and is extremely valuable to this team in particular.wprager wrote:I don't see how this is a "great deal" for the Sens. He faded in the second half and was scratched a few times in the playoffs. if CMac is back then Dzingle is a third-liner and he's not scoring anywhere near 15/30. If he got the $1.5M through arbitration then was a third-liner getting 7/15, without killing penalties, taking draws or hitting/blocking, no way would we be talking about a $2M extension.
I consider his upside (offense) to be that of Zack Smith (excluding his "breakout" two years ago). In other words 10-15 goals, another 15-25 assists. Smith was making $1.8875M on his second contract, and he hit, killed penalties and took draws. Still think, even with adjusting for cap increases, that $1.5M is what he'd be worth.
All that said, I'm glad they avoided arbitration.

My concern here is Oduya is slow - really slow. Which is the argument that we shouldn't be getting Jagr who can still produce. So I am not sure where they expect to see Oduya play. If it's with Karlsson we're in trouble.
Nobody makes that little. This isn't 5 years ago, the average NHL salary is over 3M.wprager wrote:One skill - one million.

I also think Dorion moves away from Duchene and Landeskog and focuses elsewhere.
An interesting move would be to see whether Giroux would be available out of Philly. With Bobby Ryan having had an amazing post-season and being raised just outside Philly, there may not be a better time for Ottawa to try to move him. Giroux carries a higher cap hit but is on a declining salary. Ryan has an extra year on his contract.
Philly has had a quiet off-season so far and seem destined to finish within the bottom of the Metropolitan. I am not sure what it would take and this is purely speculation but Giroux is linked to Ottawa on a personal basis and Ryan to Philly on a personal basis....
