Way too much money for a playoff healthy scratch

He faded in the second half and was scratched a few times in the playoffs. if CMac is back then Dzingle is a third-liner and he's not scoring anywhere near 15/30. If he got the $1.5M through arbitration then was a third-liner getting 7/15, without killing penalties, taking draws or hitting/blocking, no way would we be talking about a $2M extension.
I consider his upside (offense) to be that of Zack Smith (excluding his "breakout" two years ago). In other words 10-15 goals, another 15-25 assists. Smith was making $1.8875M on his second contract, and he hit, killed penalties and took draws. Still think, even with adjusting for cap increases, that $1.5M is what he'd be worth.
All that said, I'm glad they avoided arbitration.

I still want the old 2-D Centurion. I'd buy a new jersey if we got that. Even go for a number/name (first time).

How can you say that! If anything we need a third line that is pretty much a line 2B. Dzingel might very well surpass your expectations and be a legit second line winger or I could see him getting 20 with pageau, especially if white plays RW on that line down the stretch.
I also think he could be much better than smith. He had his first full NHL season last year and of course it's going to have bumps along the road. And yes he got benched in the playoffs but it's not like we didn't have depth and it was a battle to see who could stay on the line-up.
This is great news for the team
The ahl season is very different. There's a lot less of a grind. They usually play Friday Saturday and then again Wednesday. They get a lot more time off to recoup and also the competition is a lot harder in the NHL. I mean come on prags, it's a hell of a jump between AHL and NHL. Or else you'd see a lot more players succeed.wprager wrote:Flo The Action wrote:wprager wrote:I don't see how this is a "great deal" for the Sens. I very much hope he surpasses my expectations. But last year, with CMac gone for all but the last, what, 2 games (?) he managed 14 goals and 32 points. Granted, it was his first full season in the NHL, but given that he is 25 I don't think he is expected to progress much from here. Half of his goals and half of his points came in the first 29 and 20 games, respectively. There was a significant drop off in production as the season went along. I understand that he was used to playing 30-some games at college, but he also spent 2 seasons in Bingo, where the season is just as long as here. Again, 25 years old with 3 years at pro, can't expect much upside beyond what we've already seen. If he can produce 15/30 again, sure, go ahead and slot him in as that calibre player. I would have been fine with a 1 year deal.
Anyhow, the more likely outcome this season is he plays reduced minutes as a 3rd liner and gets numbers similar to Pyatt.
Enjoy the summer (when it's not raining)wprager wrote:How much longer to October?
