2017 Sens Off-Season

I have a feeling that Dorion did not re-acquire Methot because he couldn't get rid of Phaneuf. And despite what everyone says, I have a feeling he was trying to deal Phaneuf because there might be some bitterness between both parties. When it became clear he couldn't find a legit trade for Phaneuf, my guess is he told McPhee that sens weren't going to be able to deal for him back.

That's my hunch. Seems too coincidental that Phaneuf was on the block before and after the expansion draft, and Methot got traded to Dallas quite fast

Why would Dorion be trying to trade our 2nd best dman anyway?

Again, my theory is he wants Chabot to start and play in ottawa, but it's too early.

Meh. Phaneuf and dorion are pros. We make a lot more about this than they do.

Agreed. These guys are pros and Phaneuf has dealt with this his whole career. It's evident that there isn't much of a market right now. If a trade were to go down it should be done after July 1st when the market levels out. There better not be any smoke to that Phaneuf for Brown trade. No thanks!

I did hear something a few days ago about Ottawa potentially having interest in Nate Thompson. Former Guy Boucher guy in Tampa. With Pyatt signing I am not sure if we need another fourth liner. But.... I would like Ottawa to go after someone like Bonino. He's the epitome of a top nine forward who can move up and down the lineup. I can see there being a lot of demand for him. My concern is the depth this team has if/when MacArthur goes down.

I don't mind Bonino but IMO Pittsburgh UFAs are going to be terrible overvalued and overpaid. People think they contributed more than they did.

He's OK. He's not as good as he was a few years ago. Just saying, the Penguins depth players will be overpaid. I'd rather sign somebody in his prime than a 29 year old.

Yeah, Kunitz is a prime example of a guy enjoying the "Crosby effect". I'd be wary of Pittsburgh forwards not named Kessel, Malkin, and Crosby.

I must be the only one who doesn't give a toss about bottom six players. I want a top line player, anything else is a waste imo. We have so many middle of the lineup players, including MacArthur until he proves otherwise, I want a real winger capable of 30 goals. Like drouin, but not at that cost of chabot

Colorado shot down Hamonic and a 1st from NYI for Duchene. Pretty sure we can count him out of any future plans. Don't know who else is out there via trade at this point. Giroux?

Colorado shot down Hamonic and a 1st from NYI for Duchene. Pretty sure we can count him out of any future plans. Don't know who else is out there via trade at this point. Giroux?

Colorado obviously isn't actually that interested in trading Duchene.

Condon with a 3 year contract Av 2.4 mill... someone's getting paid! That's a hell of a contract for a back up! Good thing Andy is on the cheap!

Seems like a lot of money for a backup. Maybe the Sens see him as the starter after Andy's contract is up.

Definitely. One year left for Andy plus a rumored one year extension. Condon definitely got paid but Ottawa had no plan behind him.

Apparently Duchene's agent was irate. Poor guy has been on the block for two years. I am sure this is killing his trade value and reputation. It can't help anyway

Phaneuf not going anywhere it seems. Probably can't find a partner. Good.

I see the Condon deal as insurance on whatever happens. I imagine that Anderson will likely start for us for another 2 years.
Lots can happen between now and then. I feel like we'll wind up trading for a goalie or an up and coming prospect at one point.

The only problem with Condon's contract is if he becomes average to less than average that contract won't be tradable

Meh, hamonic is nothing special imo. Plus a mid to late first. I'm not a huge fan of that either
