Gally was drafted to be a center. 5 seasons and 2 coaches later he is still not a center. They pretty much had a presser to say he will play left wing.

BTW, Friedman saying Nesterov will not receive a QO. Shopping hard for a D. But they also need a center.

He is special. You watch. 40 point Dman who is mobile and has a cannon.

Not liking this at all.

Cussing Dustin brown my Wang. That better not happen

I'll place myself in between you two. I don't think he's a 40 point guy, just hasn't shown he's that type of Dman although he is showing he can get points once in a while but I do think he could be atop 4 Dman, especially when you look at karlsson who makes his partners look good. You wonder if he couldn't be a replacement to methot down the line.

You're severely overrating him. I don't think you realize how hard it is to get 40 points. What good is a cannon of a shot if you don't really score goals? Cowen had the hardest shot on the team.

Claesson had a 22 points per 82 games in the AHL the last three seasons. And you suddenly expect him to double that production in the NHL?

I like the guy, but he is certainly nothing special and would not be a huge loss at all.

His 11 points came in something like his last 20 games and he looked primed and ready - with limited ice time and next to no power play time. He can produce.

I don't see it. That's not an insult to his game, but he's like Methot in that he won't put up points even if he's next to Karlsson. He has a bit more skill but that's not really his game at all man. 40 points is elite territory.

Yeah this is what I see. He's gonna be expected to be a stay at home that can sometimes add some ponts. He won't see any power play unless we are seriously injured.
Still, I see a potential partner for karlsson down the line if Methot is out.

Ok just spitballing here.
Im hearing in how the habs are trying to find a Dman and they are in win mode now.

Couldn't there be a world where we send Phaneuf to Montreal with maybe our first for Galchenyuk? We need a winger on the left and he fits that bill. Might have to retain 1 to 1.5 on his cap but to me it seems like a good deal for both teams. Of course it would suck playing against Phaneuf often but we had to against the leafs in the past. We'd likely have to expose smith but I'm fine with that.

On top of that we'd have a guy that can move to center if we need it.

That's a fair opinion. We'll see who's right next year. I think next year will be a major stepping season up for Claesson where I think he can produce 30 ish points and then he'll force his way into the top 4. Literally the ONLY thing I don't love about him is that he gets pushed off pucks too much.

Yes because sophomore seasons always go right. Sarcasm

We don't need Claesson for points. Honestly, I'd be happy with 5 goals and 15 assists out of him. We need Claesson for good zone exits and to stay at home so Karlsson can wander.

Karlsson and Chabot could lead the way with defensive points, and Phaneuf is good for 25.

What Ottawa needs is someone tough in front of the net hence why Methot should be kept over Ceci and why we should be keeping Phaneuf. Ceci doesn't really have a place on the team right now minus the fact that we're low on RHD unless Phaneuf plays on his off wing.

But I do think we are over-rating Claesson in a big way. I am not saying he's bad but he's not as good as we are making him out to be.

Claesson doesn't need to put up points. Leave that to Chabot and Karlsson. Even Wideman only had 5 and 12 for 17 points. So 25ish points would be great.

Simply not true. Ceci has his place, and that's securely in the Top 4. The team has said on numerous occasions they want to keep this top 4 in tact. Ceci was the shut down D man all year and played 20+ minutes per game. He definitely has a place on this team.

Trying to keep the top 4 intact. " ThisJustIn! Dorion trying to trade Phaneuf" if he's not careful we'll lose both Phaneuf AND claesson.

Am I the only one to feel like we will witness an unbelievably underwhelming trade for the sens this weekend? I hope I'm wrong

I can't see us getting Duchene or anyone of that ilk.  I hope that's wrong, but I think it might be one of the 3 d-men for a kid who's about ready to step into the nhl and produce and not draft eligible.

If we move either Phaneuf or Ceci we could the up losing two dmen. If Chabot makes the team put it camp - which is still an "if" - then we have room for one. We don't know if Claesson can play 82 games the same way he played 33. It certainly looked like Harpur wasn't ready for staying in the lineup for a long stretch. I'm a little worried about Boro, to be honest; the way he plays it's a matter of time before injuries slow him down. Englund and Jaros aren't even where Harpur is.

So, bottom line, we can ill afford to loose two. Safest move is not to make any trade except the one to get the Knights *not* to take a particular player. Or maybe a D for D trade to swap a leftie for a rightie.
