Phaneuf has proven he can be a helpful player for us and it took us a long time to be able to find someone for the top 4. Im not so sure he'll be easily replaceable. The only positive I'd see is it might save us some headaches down the road.

We never seem to do well in FA, always seems to be another team that beats us to the top FA so I don't see that as a valid option. Trade could be a road worth going down but I assume there will be some heavy bidding for some of those Damien that will become available after expansion draft. I hate to say it but our best option might be to capitalize on the current need for a right handed D and try to see what is available for Ceci. Anaheim seems to have made a deal, the more I hear the more I think minny will just wind up loosing one player to Vegas and won't make any pre draft deals. So that opens up the market for a guy like Ceci.
Or we stand pat, loose methot and that is that. Which doesn't sound all that terrible since any other scenario sees us likely loosing two D.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: chemistry is huge in sports and Phaneuf fits like a glove. In fact, the whole team is perfectly balanced. It'd be a shame to get that top 4 guy we've always wanted, then have to trade them.

The only guy I'm ok with losing is Ceci - because I think he can be replaced by Chabot/Claesson/Harper by committee.

Im still unsure of what we have in Ceci so for me it's still a hard sell. I guess the part that intreagues me the most isn't what we have to lose in Ceci but we could potentially gain. I'm all for losing Ceci if it means he's involved Ina trade for a top LW like Drouin. Im not for losing him if it's just to clear out space. Maybe losing methot makes more sense then.
The advantage we hVe with Phaneuf is that he can play the right or left. In a scenario where we lose Ceci then we may slide Phaneuf to the right and move up claesson(if he's not lost to expansion) or chabot(in time) or find a LH Dman through FA (there's a lot more of those than RH)

Well if we trade Phaneuf and Vegas still takes a d-man (Claesson) we are down two LHD instead of being down one.

It's time for Ottawa to package up Ceci + forward for an impact forward. It's time!

Sure but Phaneuf has barely been a Senator. He fits well, but proved that we can get a guy and make him fit well in a short time period.

Yeah, and this is the point most people are missing. Trading a d-man just means you don't lose THAT d-man for nothing, but you're still losing a different d-man for nothing. There's no way to avoid losing someone in expansion.

Phaneuf for Eberle? I have no idea if Eberle is still even good.

I want to lose Dzingel instead. Make it so.

Im a little cold these days on Eberle. Seems that if we are hanging on to Bobby Ryan and then stone and white we are in a position of strength on the right side. I'm not sure where Eberle fits in.

I think White starts on the 4th line until there's an injury. Sign Stalberg and let Wingels walk and there's room I think.

But I don't want to lose him either!!!
If only they could take wideman.
It's not optimal either but we'd survive. Which one of our RH prospects were ready. I guess they've been seeing if Harper could play that position with the club on his off side.

Wait, you mean pyatt would stay on the third line? Mmmhhh possibly I guess. But I think that gets reversed in a short time. Or maybe you have burrows in that third line RW spot. Which makes sense. The org keeps putting him on the left for some reason. Same for stalberg. Which I wish they would just resign. It's not like he's getting picked up in expansion. Maybe they want to see if Dzingel gets picked up. They might not see a spot for him if he doesn't. I'm not sure how the org thinks these days.

I don't want to lose him either, but I would lose Dzingel way before Claesson if I had a choice. Wideman they can have if they want.

I forgot about Pyatt, but he hasn't been re-signed yet, so he might be done here.

The locks are:

Hoff - Turris - Stone
Mac - Brassard - Ryan
Smith - Pageau - Dzingel (if kept)
Burrows - ? - ?

White

There's room on the 4th line for guys to play hard and then be called up when injuries hit

I have a feeling Pyatt will be resigned. Just from the exit media availability and the tone Dorion had. Unless he has outrageous salary demands, I think he deserves a contract. Same for stalberg. But who knows. The org might feel there are too many bodies knocking at the door in Belleville.

So is the Drouin trade a precursor to the Sens finally getting Duchene?
