Hate to turn all EvTurris on you, but check the standings. 3 points up on Boston and Tampa (game in hand on Tampa) and just 3 back of the Habs.
And Stone/Hoffman are heating up as is the power play.
If he makes a big deal he might actually get attendance up.tim1_2 wrote:The only kind of trade that makes sense right now is exactly what Dorion described he's trying to do...a smaller deal for a depth winger. There's too many factors right now in play to come up with a bigger trade scenario that makes sense, especially considering the expansion draft. Taking on a quality player right now is one more guy to worry about protecting this summer. If we look like a legit contender come February, yeah, maybe it makes sense to add a bigger name or two that we could very well leave unprotected, but right now, it doesn't make sense.
Also, there's the budget issue. If the Sens were to deal prospects/picks for a big salary right now, I'm not sure The Euge would go for that given attendance this year.
Then, what do we trade for a big name winger? Most teams that would part with a good winger are likely looking for defense, and the only quality guys we would likely be willing to trade (and they'd want to take) would be Ceci or Methot. Methot's injured, and I'm not sure we really want to trade EK's partner, and then Ceci's value is likely pretty low right now....

So who do we protect in the forward group? Turris, stone, Hoffman, Pageau, brass, Ryan? If we get another top 6 that leaves dzingel and lazar unprotected and if they pick one of those two instead of method I'm fine with that.
So really is expansion a problem?
So maybe we Actually our 1st, a decent prospect and lazar to make that trade. Depending on who it is. I don't know if I want to trade a top prospect but if a 1st and brown can get you saad you think long and hard about it. Of course you try to involve someone else but for a top line style winger under contract you think long and hard about it.
Edit: I'm using saad as an example. I don't think he's on the market.
Saad was an example. Is there no wingers that might be available that you wouldn't do our first and brown for? Is brown untouchable?PTFlea wrote:kyle turris wrote:If he makes a big deal he might actually get attendance up.tim1_2 wrote:The only kind of trade that makes sense right now is exactly what Dorion described he's trying to do...a smaller deal for a depth winger. I hear ya, but I don't know who that is that's worth our top prospect plus our first. very tough call.kyle turris wrote:Saad was an example. At one point, even though you have to love our prospects, you have to think long and hard about what actually makes this team better. The core is here to win now. Not in 4-5 years when brown will likely be at the top of his game.

I'm patiently waiting for White to even sign a contract.
