Neither Dzingel nor Varone have proven anything other than they deserve a chance to prove themselves. The bottom D pairing is pretty wet behind the ears as well. I would think that Boro would start the year as the 5/6 considering the team's struggles in their own end last season.
I haven't been comfortable with the third line since Alex Chiasson was around. I don't know what they're gonna do...Pageau and Smith were excellent together, but that means you put Dzingel on line 2 - which is a stretch right now. Puempel on line 2? Maybe, but not optimum.
I guess, if I was to look at what might be the most successful (and if my opinion mattered a hill of beans), I'd probably put Puempel with Brassard and Ryan and Smith with Pageau and Dzingel.
Nothing about that is optimum though really. Puempel may or may not be ready to play in a top 9, Dzingel is a solid player, but on his off wing? And that pushes Varone right out of the lineup, I'd guess.
Someone with too much time on their hands should see how many trades for a top 6 forward have been made in the month of November historically. I bet there are very few.
I'm hella procrastinating right now. Gotta get back to the books!
i realized how easy it was and did it lol, but yeah, prags came to mind
