I haven't been comfortable with the third line since Alex Chiasson was around.  I don't know what they're gonna do...Pageau and Smith were excellent together, but that means you put Dzingel on line 2 - which is a stretch right now.  Puempel on line 2?  Maybe, but not optimum.

I guess, if I was to look at what might be the most successful (and if my opinion mattered a hill of beans), I'd probably put Puempel with Brassard and Ryan and Smith with Pageau and Dzingel.

Nothing about that is optimum though really.  Puempel may or may not be ready to play in a top 9, Dzingel is a solid player, but on his off wing?  And that pushes Varone right out of the lineup, I'd guess.
I think they'll evaluate as they come out of the gate. If the team is successful maybe that means some kids have earned a spot, if they aren't and it doesn't look like mac will be back anytime soon then trade?

Someone with too much time on their hands should see how many trades for a top 6 forward have been made in the month of November historically.  I bet there are very few.

Forgive me for asking, but what part of Dzingel, Lazar, Pyatt, Paul, Neil, Kelly etc. did Dorion see as a fit for the third line. Dzingel perhaps, but otherwise you're stretching.

Come on Dorion, everyone and their cat knew we needed an NHLer for the third line. And now...matters are worse (with Mac).

Yes, I agree. We've been talking about it all summer and the. Fear was that mac was gonna get injured again.
You always hope one of the kids will take the proverbial bull by the horns but right now there's just too many positions lacking for it to be healthy.

Then again. Hungry kids will surprise. We'll see.

I just google searched nhl trades 2009, then 2010 etc. Wiki page had them by month.

Why can't we keep Tom Pyatt on line 4, would be my question. He of a 19 point career high in points, should be nowhere near the third line. Leave that to Puempel or Varone or someone who might have an outside shot to hit 20 points in a season.

Boucher apparently said Dzingel will start the year with Brass and Ryan. What a chance!

AHL callup on the 2nd line, you guys don't like the 3rd line and we haven't even seen the 4th line. So, top-five pick?

So a guy who HAS scored 19 points has no shot of hitting 20?

I doubt he does to be honest, statistically doesn't look great.

That leaves either Puempel or Varone to be sent down. Who do you think gets cut?

Anyway, Pyatt is not a permanent solution on the 3rd line. Injuries are a factor right now.

I'm interested to see how Dzingel plays on L2. As for Pyatt, you're right L4 makes sense. I'd like to see Puempel or Varone in that role on L3. TBH, I think Varone is a better fit than Puempel until Lazar gets back.

Couldn't find the Yakupov thread but it sounds like it's now or never for a Yak trade.

L3: Smith-Pageau-Yak

Pretty solid...

Varone is the easy way out for Dorion, Puempel is a little harder. Aren't we keeping 13 forwards to start anyway?
