I'm interested to see how Dzingel plays on L2. As for Pyatt, you're right L4 makes sense. I'd like to see Puempel or Varone in that role on L3. TBH, I think Varone is a better fit than Puempel until Lazar gets back.

Couldn't find the Yakupov thread but it sounds like it's now or never for a Yak trade.

L3: Smith-Pageau-Yak

Pretty solid...

That leaves either Puempel or Varone to be sent down. Who do you think gets cut?

Varone is the easy way out for Dorion, Puempel is a little harder. Aren't we keeping 13 forwards to start anyway?

I'd offer a third, that's it.

Apparently hes now Worth less than that!
I might be interested in a trade also. Some might say long term it takes lazar out of a spot , I say that might be a good thing.

I'm not sure yak is a good player to bring in to a room that is rebuilding its team culture.

The rumours of Chicago make sense. Strong culture with strong leadership, yak would either follow or fade away.

Is tonight's game not on TV? Couldn't find it in the guide anywhere. Bummer. I was going to be on the road but plans have changed and I'm traveling tomorrow instead. Was hoping to watch the game.

12 (healthy) forwards + 8 D is what Boucher said.

Assuming Smith and Stone are good for the regular season, and Mac and Lazar aren't, that's

Hoffman-Turris-Stone
Dzingel-Brassard-Ryan
Smith-Pageau-Varone/Puempel/Pyatt
Varone/Puempel/Pyatt-Kelly-Neil

Methot-Karlsson
Phaneuf-Ceci
Chabot-Wideman
Claesson-Boro

One of Varone/Puempel/Pyatt will be sent down. My hope is it's Pyatt -- give the kids a chance to succeed, and if they don't, then bring Pyatt back to take a spot.

Varone is turning 26 soon. Not really a kid or a prospect. I think Pyatt is a lock based on the comments from Boucher

That's what I figured as well, since he wants to dress 7D. I thought Stone was cleared to play the Buffalo game so he should be good to go for the regular season opener. As for Lazar, he was expecting to get clearance half-way through yesterday's practice. He should get medical clearance to play but he hasn't been involved in any contact practices and of course no pre-season games. And would they try to get Lazar some pre-season action tonight while dressing only 11 forwards? That's a tough one. Ideally he starts the year in Bingo (on a 50-game conditioning stint Smile ) but we know that's not going to happen.

Hoffman-Turris-Stone
Dzingel-Brassard-Ryan
Smith-Pageau-???
Pyatt-Kelly-Neil

Pyatt, Varone, Puempel all shoot left. Which of these three has the skill to play their off-side at the NHL level?

That's correct, MarkStone. Plus he's been really good on the PK, which was an issue last season.

I'm kind of in agreement here but only partially. I don't want someone like Pyatt playing on the third line when it could be some one that could become a scorer.
i don't know why we aren't carrying 13 forwards and 8 D, i thought we could carry 21. sending someone like puemps through wavers is taking a chance when there could be a chance another spot opens up do to injuries.

Puempel hasn't shown he's earned a spot over everyone else but he hasn't been terrible either. if he was a 4rth round pick we'd be intrigued by him sticking around.
Varone might pan out but he might deflate after 10 games and turn out to be just a AHL flash in the NHL pan. by then puemps might be on another team.

oh lory-lord, what times we live in!

I know right? In lieu of a hot date that's a worthy substitute.

Still, really bummed that this game isn't televised. I might have arranged my evening differently.
Guess I might watch some other team play...

Yup, looks like no TV for this game tonight either on Ottawa or Buffalo side.

Boro took a puck to the throat. But he's back to start the second. Sooner or later they'll run out of parts.
