Oh...and just when you feel comfortable as a Gm, you have to look at Johnson and Palat.  Last year of both of their 3.33 million dollar deals.

Good luck sorting all of this out Yzerman...
I don't see any scenario where they resign Bishop. They could only protect one of their 2 guys in the expansion draft. I think the plan all along was to roll with Vasilevsky after next year.

That makes Bishop a solid trade chip. If they're resigning stamkos, that would free up some space.

Yeah.  Clarkson I presume.  Dustin Brown. Umberger, Cowen, Girardi (?), Stoner, Carle, Bickell, Smid, Raymond.  I dunno, should be a few, that's for sure.

Clarkson's contract is unbuyoutable.

Really? Why is that?

Arthur Staple had the following to say about the Isles:

Snow's most realistic trade target at forward is JVR, which he thinks will cost 19th OV + a player or prospect.

His instincts tell him Okposo will sign with Montreal

Eberle could be had for 'not too much more than the 19th OV'.

Bishop on the Isles radar if he waives his NTC.

They don't want a 'grit' player, they want skill and speed

Isles want to move Grabovski badly, but no buyout (he thinks)

Says that almost every team is talking seriously about trades.

Diddle, that price on Eberle is attractive...

If the Sens are comfortable with Smith on the left side of Pageau, do they investigate acquiring Eberle?

Hoffman - Turris - Ryan
Mac - ZBad - Eberle
Smith - Pageau - Stone (this line was great last year)
Dzingel - Lazar - Paul
Neil

?

Ottawa's best line last year and one of the best in the league for the short time they were together was Hoffman - Turris - Stone.

Also, Neil is not going to be the odd man out so get that out of your mind right now.

It's 90% signing bonuses. His actual salary caps out at around $2M for his highest paid seasons ($7M). If they buy him out, they still pay the bonuses (see: Heatley, Dany) but they'd only save a max of around $666K.

Ryan has to be with Turris, he can't produce otherwise. That's an unfortunate side story this year, you can't put him with Zibanejad and you're unlikely to put him with Pageau. Plus, Stone, Pageau and Smith were very solid last year, no need to break them up, especially if you can acquire another gun for the top 6. That's my opinion anyway, we'll see if there's an acquisition at forward, perhaps it's a LW.

Huh...I see that now. Who paid the signing bonus, or is it due every year like Heatley?

It's paid annually. So Columbus pays it now. It's only the worst contract in the league when you don't consider the one they moved (Horton).

Columbus has 59.3 committed to 13 players (holy crap!!)

Chicago has 60 million committed to 9 players
.  9!

Montreal has 54.9 committed to 11 players.

Minny has 61.41 committed to 12 players + 1.0 in a buyout to Matt the idiot Cooke

Tampa Bay has 51.4 committed to 14 players, but need to sign Stamkos, Killorn, Kucherov (oh boy!) and then has to decide what to do about signing Hedman (oh boy!), Bishop (oh dear!) and Drouin come July 1st, so they don't have it hanging over their heads all season, like Stamkos.

Some of the teams are gonna have some major issues, it isn't even a question of how do they manage it, it's a question of who is being traded or bought out.

I count 10. Toews, Kane, Hossa, Anisimov, Bickel, Kruger, Seabrook, Keith, Hjalmarsson, Crawford. I don't see how you can get to $60M with 9.

I can't see smith coming close to even coming close to that level of play. His shot % Was 20%, completely unsustainable. I'm not saying he can't be useful if he's needed to fill in but I can't imagine him as a regular. We should really try moving him as his cap hit is pretty minimal for now. Someone might find him attractive Ina package for a top 6 LW.

I don't see Eberle costing as little as mentioned. They won't move him for a pick either. Whoever gets moved out of there will be for a dman and possibly other forwards for depth.

Meh, smith has shown he's entirely capable of playing a top 9 role. I don't see how that can be argued, he was challenged by pretty much everyone to produce - or at least don't suck and he delivered.

If the offer was right I'd trade him, but no need to be hasty unless the offer is there. I never thought I'd say this after the season before last, but he might be of use to us if we're planning on making the playoffs
