I doubt it, don't they usually wait until after the Cup Finals? Or even to the draft?

Usually? Perhaps. This is an unusual off-season though.
Yeah there's a few variables in here that will dictate what kind of off season it will be. Another variable is wether one or two teams get the right to expansion. Will make a big difference.spader wrote:SeawaySensFan wrote:SpezDispensed wrote:I doubt it, don't they usually wait until after the Cup Finals? Or even to the draft?

Definitely. I wonder if they'll wait until the league announces the expansion timeline. That will make a big difference.

With this format I think the expansion teams have q chance to become fairly competitive fast. The only area where this will lack is in drafting.
Also will they get the 1st and second overall in that draft or will they enter the lottery?
didnt we get The first overall? But yes I agree.SpezDispensed wrote:Flo The Action wrote:Yeah there's a few variables in here that will dictate what kind of off season it will be. That would be weak if they got the 1st ov.
* According to Johnston, “Players holding no-movement clauses – including those modified by limited no-trades, such as Pittsburgh Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury – count against the protection limit, provided that those contracts and clauses extend through the 2017-18 season.”
Fleury’s deal is a bit of a hybrid, in the sense that his limited no-move clause prevents his being demoted or waived while his limited no-trade addresses the places where he could be traded. In the even there’s a player with that kind of deal, apparently they have to be protected.

Grabbing Hartnell might be part of the price of getting that 3rd overall pick.
