Always pisses me off when Toronto makes a good trade.

That's a good trade? Jokinen is a salary dump, Leipsic is completely unproven. That 1st rounder is almost a 2nd rounder. I know that Nonis had his hands tied (both players are pending UFAs) and perhaps that's the best deal he could get. Surprised he's even allowed to make moves because I honestly though he'd be gone sooner rather than later.

By definition prospects are unproven, other wise they would no longer be prospects.

Pretty safe bet even before the trade.

Think it is a pretty balanced deal. A pick b/w 24-30 in a good year which should give Toronto 3 picks in the top 40 at worst. NSH 1st + Tor 2nd could let you move up a fair bit in the draft as well to get an even better player.

Leafs problem has been amateur and pro scouting as much as anything else.

Thought they could have gotten more in seperate deals, but that prospect sounds good. Small, but interesting.

They don't have a 2nd rounder. Berner deal.

Tampa has 2 1sts. They don't have a 2nd but have Edmonton's 3rd.

I really like that deal for Nashville. Franson is outstanding, and Santorelli is good depth. Really nice trade for them.

Not a fan of franson at all, but I really like santorelli. Could be a massive piece for them.

Franson is a 10 goal/50 point defenseman. He may not be a #1 (on most teams) but he's certainly a good 2nd pairing guy now and could become a #2.

Not sure about Santorelli, though. Probably a third liner and not top-six.

He's never hit 10 goals and 50 points as far as I know. He's a terrible player in the defensive zone - really poor, but as a 30+ point guy he has upside on the PP.

It's possible he'll be better defensively in Nashville, but it's hard to imagine him being worse.

Santorelli is quite good. Not necessarily a top 6, but really solid 3rd liner. Nice depth move there.

That's my opinion anyway, it was a risk worth taking for Nashville I would imagine - even if it's just to prop up the PP in the playoffs.

I like what this does for the trade market. This puts tons of pressure for teams like LA and SJS to aquire some D. I'm not sure how long Vlasic will be out for bUT could you imagine the return for Anderson and Methot?
Both Winnipeg and NSH have made some moves this will force the others on the market. Should be an interesting time before now and the trade deadline.

I certainly wouldn't say he's terrible defensively. He's only a -7 on the Leafs...Phaneuf is -4. He also hits and blocks shots, which is nice, on top of the offensive output.

Franson is on pace for 9 goals and 48 points. He's -7 on a -15 goal differential team (Ceci is -5 on an even team). I don't think he's nearly as bad as you say, defensively. Don't forget the team he's on.

Probably worth a lot more now with a fresh, reasonable deal.

Dudline on the horizon?!?!?!

Getting Methot signed a key piece for organization. Chances of big moves at trade deadline are fading fast. #Sens

Might be worth mentioning that Bob McKenzie tweeted about the impact of the Neil injury with respect to a trade stating that the team was leaning towards keeping him anyway.

I guess that probably leaves Wiercioch and Legwand.
