Dudline on the horizon?!?!?!

Bruce Garrioch @SunGarrioch · 5m 5 minutes ago

Getting Methot signed a key piece for organization. Chances of big moves at trade deadline are fading fast. #Sens

Might be worth mentioning that Bob McKenzie tweeted about the impact of the Neil injury with respect to a trade stating that the team was leaning towards keeping him anyway.

I guess that probably leaves Wiercioch and Legwand.

As we should.

Both Winnipeg and NSH have made some moves this will force the others on the market. Should be an interesting time before now and the trade deadline.

And then there was one. Of course there's still Wiercioch and Cowen.

We should be able to get a second for Wiercioch.

If they can move out Wiericioch and Legwand for anything around 2nd and 3rds that should be a win for a trade deadline day.

I'd say at best it's a 3rd rounder we get.

Who are the teams with advanced stats guys? Leafs, Oilers, anyone else? Wiercioch has great stats and should be able to get a 2nd from those teams.

If they don't have one they can find one at any of the concessions in their rinks. Or promote a ticket taker.

I know you're just making a joke, but these guys put in a lot of hard work and they aren't dumb by any stretch. That recent analytics conference they had a week or so ago was better attended than even I thought it would be (at least from pictures), and I'm pretty sure it's something that will continue to grow.

It's something that NEEDS to grow since the whole analytics thing is still in its infancy. What I don't like from a lot of the analytics nerds is that they just throw stats out with little interpretation. It's like "LOOK AT WIERCIOCH'S CORSI, HE SHOULD ALWAYS PLAY WITH KARLSSON"...instead of relating it to other things like quality of opposition, etc. And then you can watch Wiercioch get pushed off the puck more easily than, say, Cowen does, but this doesn't really show up in analytics if it's not directly linked to something else......anyway, all that to say, they have a long way to go.

But for all those times he gets pushed, there are many others where he gets the puck out of his zone with a good pass. Karlsson used to get pushed off the puck very easily, and relied solely on his speed to get to the puck first. He's now learned how to better angle the players to the boards to slow them down. Once you take away the speed, the size difference matters a lot less.

Forget about pairing up with Karlsson -- the sample size is too small. But overall when Wiercioch is on the ice the Sens percentage of shot attempts is significantly higher than all other LHS D-men on the team.

And there are teams/GMs out there who do take these stats seriously.

People who work the concessions probably work a lot harder. Analytics will indeed grow for now. Then fall off a cliff like Dexy's Midnight Runners, Sisqo and Afroman.

You don't have to do anything. They have TOI stats for all players; did they ever ask you to track when players got on and off the ice? They do the heavy lifting and you can ignore their efforts if you wish.

Buffet says:
Expect Patrick Wiercioch to play a lot until the deadline. Carolina would be another team interested in him. #Sens

I bet Carolina wants to give us a 3rd because it'll be a high 3rd. Which I'd do, personally.
