they wouldn't love Lazar so much if they thought he was going to b ea third line centre. Remember, they;ve gone on record saying he could score 30 goals one day

Pretty sure everyone in the city loved Fisher. Fisher peaked at 25 goals, 53 points in Ottawa. No reason Lazar can't put up those numbers. 30+ goals may be a stretch.
And to Neely's point about a big makeover, I think BM will deal some extra pieces out for picks (Legwand, Wiercioch/Gryba, Neil, Smith) but we probably won't see that big makeover until the off-season, though I do think they should strike now and go into next season knowing exactly what you have.
Ex: I'd give Stewart a test run. He doesn't look good over the next 25-30 games, don't re-sign him.
Ex: I'd make a blockbuster trade now so you give your players something positive going into the off-season (ie: Kane, Hall, Eberle, etc)

Fisher also isn't a third line centre.

He was for long stretches in Ottawa. And even if he wasn't, on paper he's a two-way, 3rd line center.

What does that mean, on paper? Becausr on paper, right now, he's a 1st line centre this year

Turris, Zib both need to start winning some draws - it'll lead to more goal scoring and better possession numbers

If the team were run as SSF wishes, our average age would be 35 and we'd never roster anyone under 29. And we'd trade all draft picks and kids for more old guys. There's the winning recipe!
I just don't think our "young guns" are as high a calibre as some think.
And while I don't think a roster with an average age of 35 assures success, I suspect that our current crop of youngsters will get better (dramatic pause) with age.

It's not just age, it's age and experience. I wonder how one gains both in this league? By playing, maybe?

I suppose I should have spelled that out. I thought it was an easy assumption.
