Again, he's a 20 year old Dman. What more do people want.

Nothing... he's been good.  He hasn't been great.

If the question is "has he been great for a 21 year old D man in the NHL?", then sure, he's been great.

Fair. He'd be truly awesome as an AHL D man, which is what he would be in a winning, non-budget organization.

Yeah, guys like him, Ekblad, Seth Jones, would be way better off in the AHL. Said no one ever.

And how old is Ekblad? Not throwing Ceci under the bus but if you ask "what more" there's your answer.

Ceci is closer to Gryba than he is to either of those guys.

And now we went to the other extreme which is also wrong.

I can accept that.

If the team were run as SSF wishes, our average age would be 35 and we'd never roster anyone under 29. And we'd trade all draft picks and kids for more old guys. There's the winning recipe!

Ekblad is a franchise D-man picked 1st OV, whereas Ceci was picked 15th overall and has come in here and been awesome IMO. Ceci will be our 2nd pairing RH D-man for as long as we wish to retain him - and he spent all of a half season at most in the AHL. It's a pretty damn incredible story and we should be looking at him as a shining bright spot on this roster.

I just don't think our "young guns" are as high a calibre as some think.

And while I don't think a roster with an average age of 35 assures success, I suspect that our current crop of youngsters will get better (dramatic pause) with age.

How's this for calibre? Tell me if I am off the mark.

Zib will be a #1 center by default. #2 center depending on who we draft this year
Stone and Hoffman have the makings to contribute offensively but will never be dominant top-three players. Solid top-six players
Lazar is going to be a solid two-way player. Third line center.
Cowen and Ceci will be a solid, defensive oriented 3-4 pairing with limited offensive upside
Chiasson is a top nine power forward - probably a 3rd liner at best
Lehner will be a 1b

You might be slightly off with Zibanejad being a number one and slightly off with Lazar topping out at just a 3rd, but it can obviously be argued either way.

Pretty much all of that changes if you have 2/3 of a legit Top line starting with a dominant, productive C. For instance you add Lazar to that 2/3 and suddenly he's a credible Top 6. Same for just about any winger outside of Chiasson.

We should be getting more than "limited offensive upside" from Ceci and if that's all we end up getting, I think it might have a lot to do with him being rushed into the NHL and not establishing himself as a league-leading stud with at least a full season in the AHL. But what do I know.

Lehner is on his way to being what we hoped but he honestly has a lot of work to do and can no longer afford any prolonged setbacks.

Yeah, this sounds about right. I dunno what you mean by "Lehner will be a 1b"? Lehner is fully capable currently of being a good starting goalie. What we're missing is a #1 LW and a #1 C. Could you imagine if we had, say Zbad centering our third line with MacArthur and whoever on the wings? That'd be terrific.

they wouldn't love Lazar so much if they thought he was going to b ea third line centre. Remember, they;ve gone on record saying he could score 30 goals one day

I'm just gonna watch the games and enjoy them for what they are. No point in breaking anything down on a team that's going to get a big make over in the next 2, 3 weeks.
