NEELY wrote:And now we went to the other extreme which is also wrong.

If the team were run as SSF wishes, our average age would be 35 and we'd never roster anyone under 29. And we'd trade all draft picks and kids for more old guys. There's the winning recipe!

I just don't think our "young guns" are as high a calibre as some think.

And while I don't think a roster with an average age of 35 assures success, I suspect that our current crop of youngsters will get better (dramatic pause) with age.

It's not just age, it's age and experience. I wonder how one gains both in this league? By playing, maybe?

I suppose I should have spelled that out. I thought it was an easy assumption.

Hence, why you play Lazar over Legwand, Boro over Phillips, and so on. We're a super young team, and we're going to be like that for a while -- HAVE to be like that for a while if you are of the opinion, as our management clearly is, that our kids are going to be good NHLers in due time. What this fan base needs more than anything at this stage is patience.

Also because Legwand and Phillips suck like a vacuum.

When we're gonna have a D-corps like the Preds, I will maybe throw the word awesome around some of our players. When we're fighting for a top 5 pick and every single one of our D-men get exposed every single night, let's just admit the awesome-ness is in the horizon not in front of our eyes.

Exactly. It's building towards something special but hardly there yet.

Except defense is the least of the teams issues. Look at our goals against.

Nashville has shea weber. D is actually their weakest point this year

Of course it's not there yet lol. That wasn't really my point. Ceci - with the exception of a game here or there has been rock solid. And id agree that defence is basically the least of our worries.

We should try scoring. Apparently it's 'neat'

I find it hard to believe that Ottawa hasn't made one trade this season with a crowded lineup and losing night after night.

In Murray's defence, no one really makes trades.

Yah... maybe. Either way a lot of this is Murray's doing from giving Greening that contract to having vets that are past their best before date.

And every year they say go will, battle for spots when we know there are no spots in reality

Spots always open up but you're right, spots are always spoken for at the beginning of every season and it's a detriment to the team and the organization itself.

Pageau should have made it to start the season but guess what? Greening was there and didn't deserve to be. Hoffman and Stone did earn spots this year along with Ceci which was a nice change of pace.

We'll see what the rest of this season, the summer, and the beginning of next brings.

Smith needs a change of address immediately. Screw having him over Pageau or lazar.

He hasn't even played in months lol. I'd welcome him as the fourth line c

I can't stand him. Brings zero to the table that can't be had by promoting an Ahl player. Garbage.

Welcome aboard. Been saying so for years.

The other thing that Murray does that is extremely annoying is saying "I want to add a guy to help this team" when the season is pretty much over. The Hemsky deal, w/e, he didn't give up a ton but even now you haven't heard the words "seller" from his mouth, just the media.

I'm sure he means longer term than this season.

Yeah, I don't think we'll be seeing any rentals in Ottawa this spring. If Murray brings in a roster player, the intention will be to have him here long term.
