Hoffman is the spark plug, he gets players going.

Well if Lazar is staying up here burning one year toward free agency I hope Hoffman can get him going a bit. Problem is, Hoffman may be leading this team in scoring, but his assist totals are pretty weak.

so some reporter in LA is suggesting trading williams for a Dman. methot for williams trade? id love me some williams in ottawa. understanding he re-signs with us. obviously a methodless sens team would need to aquire a D-man somewhere to replace methot.

No one is going to give up a thing for Williams, he's an unsigned UFA.  I'm a big supporter of Williams and think the Sens 100% need to throw some cash at him in the offseason but no way I trade a thing for him.

The "reporter" is high if he thinks he's worth anything to anyone other than a playoff team looking to stock up.

I don't know. if it would guarantee we could resign him it might be worth it. there's no guarantee (and i would say chances aren't looking good) that we can sign williams in the off season compared to another team.

he doesn't suggest a methot for williams trade. that's all mine. but if williams comes with an extention once he lands here i find it an interesting idea to entertain.
he's exactly what we need going forward.

Sens need a few things, one of the few being a guy like Williams. They need a lot more toughness up front before they can add vets to help them along.

Well we need to add many things. I don't think any move is going to adress all our needs. I don't think we have a guy down the pipeline that is capable of adding toughness and can step in right away.

They don't. They need a lot more toughness and guys who are not afraid.

I like the way Ryan plays, and I've liked how Zibanejad was playing -- at least in the first period before I lost internet and then the TV (my son went to power-cycle the wireless modem, couldn't find where to unplug it -- it's at the bottom -- and then decided oh well I'll pull the cord on something else).

Toughness, not guys that play hard.

How old are you? Do you have enough hair left that you are willing to split them?

Besides SSF constant sarcasm about NHL trades I really do wonder when the first big move is coming? It's good the Sens have fallen completely out of it at this point because there are very few sellers at this point (Ott, Edm, Buf, Arz, Car, and Tor) and you would think the awful streaks by these teams would force something.

People are always put off and say "well there's too many sellers, the prices will be low" when actually it's the opposite.  If you have 1 or 2 teams selling, yah, they can demand what they want but teams don't have to bite just like last year.  Vanek, Moulson, the big names out there went for very little.

This year the market will be set by one move (and probably the "swirmolios") and teams can then set the price on their guys.  Murray usually makes a move early on and also has a history of making moves for an injured player (Leclaire) so maybe that will happen again.

There will be lots of guys on the move and there are lots of teams fighting for playoff spots as well.  I would assume there's going to be tons of 2nd and 3rd rounders moved here... not sure you see a lot of 1st's going out the door though, if there are I am going to assume it's conference finals protected ie "if said team makes it to the conference finals the 2nd round pick becomes a 1st round pick" or something along those lines.  Pitt's, NYR, STL, and NYI's are already out there door and NYI doesn't have a 2nd either.  You wonder if other teams competing with those guys will be willing to deal theirs as well?

Tampa IMO is the team to watch... they have 2 1st rounds picks in this draft and are going for it this year (I owe SD some cash). Boston also has an extra 2nd going into the deadline and will need to bolster their wing and potentially blueline.

Deadline day is going to be fun.

Yeah, I hope we get a decent deadline, but a lot of moves could happen prior to the deadline as we've seen in recent years. As you said, Murray has a history of getting moves done early.

Murray usually makes a move early but that's usually when he's going for it... you think he might stay pat for a bit because there's literally no reason to panic. It's over and done with this season, you just hope he moves some vets.

In terms of Sens hockey the only thing getting me to that building right now is to see some prospects play if they ever move some of the vets (dead weight is inaccurate).

After seeing Lehner over this stretch I am extremely curious to see if they try and move Anderson. San Jose is the one and only team I can see making a move for a goalie and that's with the Sens taking Neimi back... could be a good back up for Lehner as well for a few years, that's exactly the type of guy he needs playing behind him.

That Hossa trade was the beginning of the end for the Sens, Muckler completely screwed over the franchise for a long, long time. They had built something special and he completely tore it down.
