He could but Lazar tends to shut people up it seems and rise to expectations.

Maybe a guy like Robinson or Grant get a spot out of camp and they let Lazar figure it out in the AHL, it's not an unlikely scenario but I wouldn't hold my breath either.  Guys like McKormick, Dzingle, even a DD get a shot at that 3rd, 4th line wing spot.

DD maybe, but they are gonna take so much time with Dzingel and McMormick I think. Like...another 2 years in Bingo before they get any regular shifts, only because they have a lot to learn to go with their filthy skill (especially Dzingel) and if you're patient, you might reap some really nice rewards. I have really high hopes for Dzingel personally. I think a lot of people in Sensland don't know what we have there.

I think a guy like DD should be getting that 4th line wing spot, I thought he had won a spot before the fight and wasn't going to give it up but they had to hit reset with him. There is also Robinson though who has the same kind of size and skates well but has a little more skill.

...and Cole Schneider who can play the game at the pro level and apparently continues to train hard to add to his 200 pound frame.

For what it's worth, MacKenzie scoffed at the idea of Ottawa getting ROR, saying Colorado could easily do better if they're patient.

You can always get a better deal but there has to be another team.

And Ottawa can just as well do better than ROR...

He said that Colorado wants a top 4 D-man back and would be fools to miss this opportunity to do it. Futures won't entice them, as they would take a contract back to get max value, then deal with that contract in the off-season if it was unwanted.

I tend to agree, futures for Colorado are probably not what they're looking for.

Not sure about that. Hossa maybe, but he's a lot older obviously.

Then it will be Yandle so good luck to them, that won't improve their back end at all. Makes more sense for them to try and grab a D man, no question but good luck with the top 4 guy. As we all know teams don't give those away or trade them for well above market value.

If they don't go out and get ROR I can 100% see the Sens making a play for Vermette.

Sure. There's tons of options out there. Some a little better, some marginally inferior.

If the Sens threw 5 x 5 at Vermette, that's a deal that would make a lot of sense. Fast, 2 way, LH center, with a ton of experience and a guy who loved Ottawa. Could fit like a glove there too even if he's on the back 9 of his career.

I've always been a big fan of Vermette but I'm a bigger fan of the Senators so I'm call it like I see it. Vermette is certainly a slight upgrade on Legwand, a touch younger too, but why would you bring him in when you had basically the same player and chose not to play him?

We would have to overpay for Vermette on a long term deal...and yeah, I'm not sure he really improves us that much.

Well, for one thing Vermette is on pace for ~55 points and is a fast skater.

Legwand is on pace for ~35 and is the slowest guy in the NHL - or if he's not, he's close.

Vermette is 16th in the entire NHL in faceoff % - 55.8% to be exact.

While Legwand is in the top...300 or so with a 48% faceoff %.

So speed, puck possession and more production = major upgrade IMO.  Plus a fan favourite for what that's worth (not much I guess).

Legwand has played a lot less minutes with lesser linemates. It's a miracle he has as many points as he does.

I'd rather have Vermette on this team over Legwand 10 times out of 10 because I just like him more. For 3 million, you get about the same thing with Legwand. Particularly if you choose to play him which the Senators have opted not to do.

Probably the best case scenario would be to swap the players one for one but there's still the question of whether or not Vermette would even get any quality minutes. So what's the point?
