2. Top end young talent on team friendly contracts
3. Incredible depth down the middle

Ottawa is 0 for 3 by my count.

Ottawa could get better while spending less.

Replace Smith ($1.88), Phillips ($2.5), Greening ($2.65), Michalek ($4) with Pageau ($0.613), Claesson ($0.623), Robinson ($0.925) and Puempel ($0.863).

Methot comes back and that is a better team than what you've got now. You can make even more changes but with Methot back Wiercioch is benched, so why bother. Neil can be replaced but he's trying and producing, and with better forwards he could go back to playing fewer minutes and be used properly. Plus you have to keep some vets (that's one reason for not touching Legwand).

The changes above reduce the cap by $8M, by the way.

We need better defensemen. Wiercioch cannot be on an NHL team. Philips is done.

I think the biggest issue right now is that Karlsson cannot trust whomever they stick in as his partner. As a result he tries to do it all by himself. I almost feel like you could put Karlsson out there with five forwards at even strength and it will be better than what we have now.

Last night I saw him skating circles in his own end both with and without the puck. Half of that skating should have been Phillips. We need Methot back in a huge way.

Just saw Murray tell Lazar in the hotel lobby he will be named to the junior team tomorrow.

I like this move. Great for Lazar in the long-run

Cue the trade rumors. Last night was awful. With Ryan out, time for a trade.

Mac-Turris-Eberle would be a great line.

I think we need to upgrade on Zib too, though unfortunately. How does the whole Da Costa situation work. Do we retain his rights while he's in the K?

Right, but I'm still not convinced he's a top-six center.

I thought that line of Michalek ZBad Greening was actually our best line. Do I have that right? My brain has beer induced fogginess.

Phillips isn't an NHL player anymore, can't keep up with the play, game is simply too fast for him.

My feelings on Phillips haven't changed. To me, he is still a 5/6 dman.

What I see a 5/6 as is a player who is at about 14-16 minutes a game and correctly kept away from the other team's top line wherever possible. Phillips can still be that. But trotting him out for 21:55 like he was last night simply won't do. The real issue is that the defensive unit is terrible.

The ZBad had its moments last night but were a combined -8.

ya, i was refusing to get excited with the early season phillips, i knew this would come. needs to stay on the bottom pairing. we desperately need Methot back. as for weir... well, he's still somewhat young for a D-man. could still pan out but if he's a piece of a trade well we might as well.
