I think they try and trade Martin and/or Niskanen...potentially Jussi Jokinen as well.
Can't trade Martin. He was their rock last year.
Pittsburgh's CapGeek page shows their Salary Payroll at just over $65M, while their "Cap Payroll" (the one that matters) is just over $60M. I guess bonuses and stuff factor in differently with the cap.
They'll snuggle in pretty darn close to the cap. 19 players at 60 million, so two more...do they let Murray go? I assume so, he was a poor choice for pickup.
So, they're fine.
Hardly fine. Cooke was their best player (effort-wise) in the playoffs. They've got to re-sign him. Even if he only gets $3M that leaves them just a bit over $1M for injuries, and that's just a 20-man roster. So everyone plays every day -- no doghouse this year, no healthy scratches. Back 5 years ago teams liked to leave a $2M cushion for injuries. You'd think you would need $3-4M these days.
