LOL he'll never play anywhere else.  He's said that 10 million times.

yeah but he's seeing our budget, and the fact that we can't even afford a zamboni, so he will jump ship to New York with Henrik Lundqvist

McGuire says Detroit has the inside track.

Oh yeah, the model franchise.

Alfie is too young for Detroit. They only sign old men.

Nick Kypreos ‏@RealKyper
Interesting to see how quickly the #Senators sign Alfie knowing it might cost them as much as 6M+ for 1yr.

I doubt it will go that high.

DefenceWinsChampionships wrote:I think we all have to keep in mind that Alfie isn't going to play for $1M this season. Figure he'll almost make equivalent to what Gonchar made last season. You then have to turn around and qualify Condra, Hoffman (one-way?), and Wiercioch which will likely add another $3M+ against the cap (at least). Michalek, Phillips and Greening are UFA's the year after, and Conacher, Silfverberg, Lehner, Cowen RFA's as well.

This is the budget that Murray keeps referring to. He can spend money, but he has to keep in mind that the core of his roster will be getting significant raises in the next year or two and it's more important to his system to have three guys making $3M than one guy making $9M. It's the small market mentality...

IMO Murray has to address two top-six positions, and a top-four D position without hurting the core or taking on too much salary in the process.

First, Alfie made more than $1M last year. He also had the buy out money. Second, we're talking cap hit, not salary, and his cap hit was close to $5M.

Edit: I think the buyout actually ended last season. Still, the cap hit was $4.875M or something like that.

We are the cream of the Internet crop, there is no doubt.

Which, to be perfectly honest, isn't really something to crow about.

McGuire says he'd be willing to take a discount to play in Detroit. Possibly for the league minimum/

Yeah. Magnitogorsk. Or maybe Nizhnekamsk.

McGuire would take a discount to play in my backyard rink. And I haven't got a backyard rink.

The Senators aren't close to deals with D Patrick Wiercioch and C Erik Condra. Two sides aren't speaking the same language. Talks continue.

Wiercioch and Condra's agents playing hardball it seems.

Wiercioch better not be asking for anything other than a 2 way because at this point the guy is totally replaceable. As for Condra, give him term, he deserves it and has proven to be a very solid 4th liner who fills a big role on the PK.

Wiercioch had a decent 1st year, you can bet money him and his agent want a 1-way.

As for Condra, yeah I agree, although he may be asking for more than a 4th liner typically gets.

He had a good 30 somethings games, yah... and that big playoff shift. Anything outside of a 1 way at close to league min... maybe around 750 or so, he's asking for way too much. He earned the right to be in the NHL and nothing more.

If you're Condra, you just point to Smith's contract I'd say. For Wiercioch, it must be the 1-way thing that's the hang up for sure.
