He's not a #7. Let's not be silly here. Give him Gonchar's PP minutes and see what happens.

He may have more talent than a N7, but he was the 7th guy during the playoffs and that's basically where it's at as far as negotiations go.

He got injured, don't you remember?

MMh... he was benched until Gryba got suspended. Remember?

He missed two of the last three games of the regular season and then the 1st game against Montreal.  Gryba got suspended for the second game and Wiercioch drew in, then got injured in that game and didn't play again.

He played against Boston to end the season -- doesn't sound like a benching.  Maybe he was nursing something, as it didn't take all that much to knock him out.

He didn't start the playoffs and he was healthy. Cmon now Laugh1

imo wiercioch is a lot like preissing. he'll have a fantastic year as a 6/7 guy on a very solid defensive team, play soft d minutes, lots of pp time, and opt for a bigger contract when he's a +20 with 15-20 points on the season.

perfect trade bait.

He did not get benched. He was day-to-day, which with the Sens this year probably meant a punctured lung.

He was not benched. He was one of the most pleasant surprises this season -- along with Gryba. Fact of the matter is, though, if Gryba was not a RHS he would have finished the year in Bingo, and likely started there next season, too.

Sure, he's behind Methot, Cowen and Phillips, but I'd much rather see him on the PP than Phillips. And if we don't get a rightie in the off-season then it'll be Phillips on the 3rd pairing right side, first PK unit, and Wiercioch is the third pairing on the LHS and 2nd PP unit (unless they put him on the 1st).

Who said he was healthy? He missed two games, played one, missed one, played one and was out. Looks and smells like he was nursing an injury.

If he was not healthy they should have played Benoit then in game 3.

Come on, not even close. Preissing had 38 points in 80 games with one of the best offensive teams in the league; that was his third full season in the league. Wiercioch came in as a rookie on one of the worst teams (offensively speaking) and put up 19 points in 42 games.

If he was not healthy they should have played Benoit then in game 3.

And they didn't. What does that tell you? His numbers were better than Benoit's. That's it. Even the +/- which you will all scoff at, but they were.

i think benoit will be a cheaper alternative given his ties to the city. that being said, i'd prefer wiercioch on the roster over benoit. perhaps we wont see the results right away, but certainly down the road wiercioch will be a more valuable asset to the team - even if the team decides to trade him

Unless a guy is an absolute bunghole than he won't care where he gets drafted. Not a factor at all. Also tie is close to the current sens brass.

If we got some skinny euro over a guy like domi because of this then it would be challenged

Wiercioch was a 1st year rookie. As good as he was, MacLean wanted guys with experience in the playoffs if he had any choice. We had tons of rookies in the lineup as is. He was out of the lineup as soon as Cowen was ready to play.

Wiercioch wouldn't even have played in the NHL if Cowen didn't get hurt.

Benoit also had much more pro experience which put him in over Wiercioch.

Per Ottawa Senators twitter:

Patrick Wiercioch is still out with a lower body injury.

Flo. You needed to read the previous tweet;

“@SunGarrioch: I'd do anything for Paul Holmgren to make a trade right now and ruin @tpanotchCSN's dinner with @joshuacooper @Russostrib and I.”

Does Holmgren get sick if he doesn't trade a player every 6 months?

Absolutely. He's like you or I, he's not a real GM, he just plays one.
