I agree with Prags, take many players out of Pitts and watch their production drop. even Gonchar who even though he aged had a severe drop in output leaving pitts. Malkin and Crosby make everyone around them better. it's just a fact. you cannot expect letang to put similar numbers just like i don't think Dupuis will have as much success elsewhere either.

Nah. Letang is an offensive dynamo. The second best puck mover in the league behind Karlsson, many would argue he's as good or even better. He's pretty tough for a little guy, he's decent devensively. This is an amazing hockey player, but if you have him and Karlsson as 1A and 1B, you're gonna be absolutely unstoppable IMO - especially with Cowen and Methot flanking them.

Letang in Ottawa is as big a step forward towards a Cup I think we can take. We're just so tough to play against with that kind of fire power on the blue line - and more importantly puck possession. They'd make our forwards so much better - it would be ridiculous.

They can't both play on the top pairing, so Letang will get 20-22 minutes. He's not going to put up same numbers playing 6-8 minutes less and not on the 1st PP unit. And while you say he is a tough little guy his injuries recently don't really support that. He's not the crease-clearing type, either, so you need him to score points, but not as a 2nd pairing guy.

It's funny, you talk about how you can't just grab every free agent available and throw them on a team, like Philly yet you want two small offensive defencemen, who both play the right side, who both need to play 25+ minutes a night *and* play on the 1st PP unit on the same team.

Both could easily play 25+ minutes.

Don't think Eugene would pony up the $$ to pay his salary which is, I think, around 7M..

As for Camelarri, he's a LH shot which Ottawa is desperate for at this point up front, everyone is a righty.  He's probably a good fit for a little bit and is a legit top 6 forward that won't cost a ton.

I don't understand.  Letang is Cussing amazing.  Imagine having Karlsson on pairing one and Letang with Cowen on pairing 2?  I'd give everything for that....everything.

How could you slight Letang?  How?

He is rumoured to want around 7M... Too much $$

Not sure about Letang, but Niedermayer and Pronger were on 2 different pairings, were both close to PPG and both shot left, and both on the top PP pairing so yeah, you can make it happen.

Methot - Karlsson
Cowen - Letang

It's definitely possible, you can send any of those pairings against anybody.
Not sure It makes sense though in the grand scheme of things. What we have to give up, what will happen in the dressing room etc.

Getting Letang would be nice, sure, but that's not our #1 need. If it's a choice between a top-line winger and a first-pairing offensive d-man, you have to go for the winger. Also, not only is Letang going to get at least $7M/year, but the asking price from Pittsburgh is going to be ridiculous.

Again, Letang would be wasted in Ottawa, not even close to what the Sens need.  They have a 30 min a night D man in Kalrsson, you don't need a lesser version of him who will be making more and playing less.

I think it puts us into serious Cup contention, but no one needs to worry as it won't happen.

I'm not sure his handedness and/or sidedness would fit into our team anyhow.

CBC showed clips of Murray and MacTavish talking last night.  I wonder if there's anything brewing there.

I don't think so personally. What team that finished in the bottom 3 has a need for Letang who will be a UFA after the next season and probably isn't real interested in being a part of any kind of rebuild?

Terry Jones ‏@sunterryjones

Sure sounds like Craig MacTavish has a couple of deals done and is just waiting for the Stanley Cup to end so he can announce them. wrote:

Maybe they can work out a deal with Letang. In any case if letang is getting traded, I bet you the GM on the other side would have already done his homework on whether letang would stay or not. No way he gets traded to a team and leaves in that one year. Agents have the authority to discuss deals with other trading partners.

I'm sure Penguins will dangle him for the top 3 picks. But these days its rare that the top 3 let go of their pick for an established player so we'll see. Should be really exciting next week!
