Sounds like gonchar was told he wasn't going to be back and his agent helped in orchestrating his trade. The guy in Dallas is Jim nill and I would say it's more a coup for him to get gonchar who will likely get the term and money in Dallas. But a conditional 6th rounder is too little even for his rights. The risk of trading his rights without getting a sure return is stupid.

how is that too little? They would have got nothing at all if he walked. It's basically just a favour to Dallas.

I've learned to trust Murray, but I hope we're getting a player to replace Gonchar and not some Lundin or reclamation project

It's a great move because at this point they are going to be drafting depth and they now have an extra pick to either move or draft a guy with an outside shot at playing in the NHL. They got something for basically nothing.

So Ottawa now has no 2nd or 7th rounder but still has 7 picks in this draft coming up, that's how you keep the depth in the organization and how you can eventually move those assets for something bigger. You gotta think Murray has something in mind heading into the draft and UFA.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Murray make a move for Bieksa or Ballard in Vancouver.

Need someone with a RHS. Bogosian, Shattenkirk and Pietrangelo -- all righties, all RFA.

None of those are realistic though. Maybe Bogosian, but even then, the Jets are way better off with him than moving him - and if they do, look out, it'd be real expensive.

And worth it.

My preference in order is Bogosian, Bieksa, Boyle and Ballard.

Ballard is a left shot. Any deal for Bogosian would obviously include Ceci since he would never mone ahead od EK or ZB.

It's a completely different game, on Mars. Can't compare.

Dallas has reached a deal with Gonchar -- $10M over 2 years. Paperwork to be signed and then that's that.

I get it, what I'm saying is that it's been reported that the 6th rounder would only come our way if gonchar signed with them. I'm nitpicking right now but I wish there was a guarantee that we'd get a pick no matter what. Mootpoint now since gonchar just signed his deal with dallas
