The "Sens draft combine"? Are they holding a separate one?

Ah, so it's just interviews? Or are they going to try and kill them, too?

they test them, make them do drills, skate, etc.

Erne is a power forward who has fell in the draft rankings, so he could be a prime target. Really solid winger.

Nick Baptiste will most likely be here as well. Ottawa kid who is a big, physical presence on the ice. He's underrated right now as well and has lots of time to develop in the O and A.

I'd like to see them bring in Hartman and Gauthier too. I don't know if the European guys would come over for the mini combine, but if they do I'd like to see Burakowsky and Wennberg here as well.

Looks like the Gonch is headed to the KHL:

Dmitry Chesnokov ‏@dchesnokov 1h
Sergei Gonchar is close to moving to Matallurg Magnitogorsk of the #KHL to join Mike Keenan. #Sens

That's a shame, but sounds like his goal is to win a gold medal for russia.

Only thing he doesn't have in his trophy case so can't blame the guy. He was a good senator and helped the team and players when they needed him most. He was a player that kept Ottawa's head above water and shouldn't be over looked.

Wish him nothing but the best - especially after he effectively saved our season with Methot. Really surprised, thought he'd be signed by Murray, but that's life.

HUGE hole for Murray to fill.

Gotta think they look hard at mark streit. Or make a trade. Need a veteran puck mover.

It's tough to say why he's really heading to the KHL if its true, but when he signed that 3 year deal initially, he had made the notion that he wanted to keep playing till the next olympics. And I'm pretty sure he had a good time playing in the 'K' during the lockout, so I'm inclined to believe that this was his decision. Murray likely only wanted to offer a 1-year deal.

Streit would literally be perfect. Carbon copy of Gonchar - if not a little bit better at this stage of their respective careers.

Does he play the right side?

Y'know how many times a player has been rumoured to head to the KHL, and then it doesn't happen? This is another case where The Gonch may end up sticking around in the NHL, so don't count him out yet.

TSN.ca says he shoots left. Dan Boyle is still the best guy to go after, but seeing as how that's not going to happen, streit should definitely be a target. Give him a 3-year $12-15M deal. However then are you looking to pair him with Cowen?

Except for a cup, a hof career, and the consistency.

Yeah Elliotte Freedman was speculating if this was just a leverage move/news from Gonchar. 'Sign me now Ottawa or I head to Russia'

I know he shoots left, but he might be a guy like Gonchar who can play the right side. I seem to recall hearing that a couple of times.

I'd say Streit is so consistent you could set your watch to him getting 40+ points.

a35 year old streit could be considered the same )and better) than a 40 year old Goc

obviously their careers aren't the same, but who cares about that when evaluting a player in the now?
