I think people underestimate the impact of the cap coming down significantly. Yeah, it'll go back up, but that doesn't change the impact for next season.

Clarkson will get a huge contract. Do we want him for $5M x 5 yrs?
Clowe had 3 goals this year.
Horton is a reasonable option.
Clarkson either goes to Toronto or stays in NJ... if he signs in Ottawa it will be nothing short of an overpayment. He is going to get a 7 year deal for sure and probably around 6 mil per. Yah, that's the kind of money he is going to get. He will then be handed the "C" in Toronto after they left Phaneuf go or trade him. Bring this back up in 2 years time please.
Clowe is awful.
Ryder is an option because he can play with top end talent, same as Briere. Bickell would be a perfect fit on the 4th line.

who keeps minusing you????
I remember reading this when you (Ev) posted it back in April, and after talking to someone today, I can all but guarantee that Briere wants to play in Ottawa to end his career, so if Ottawa wants him (which they should at least consider, imo), I'm sure there is a deal to be made that wouldn't cost Ottawa all that much.
Briere isn't nearly what he used to be, but with Alfredsson possibly retiring, adding another veteran like Briere would only help the young kids in Ottawa.

I've heard the same rumblings as well.
Would be it would be something like JOB for Briere.
