Can't imagine anyone not happy.

People who want a bigger splash. Lots of people were upset all we got is Latendresse and Lundin last summer instead of Nash(for example).

tim1_2 wrote:Pierre McGuire already decided that Bryan Bickell will solve all of our problems. 30 goals on a line with Spezza, plus size to spare. Boom.

That's more like it.

What if we did get Nash though? The rumours were Zibanejad + Lehner + 1st round (Ceci). That's unreal. That would have been very controversial. Plus Nash sucked Donkey in the playoffs.

I want Lucic, end of story. :crossarms:

Seriously, tho', OTT needs to look for big wingers who thrive in the playoffs. Sure, Briere fits the second part of that bill there, but guys like Clarkson, Clowe, and Horton all need to be on our radar.

A BOS newspaper had an article a month or two ago about how Lucic was not living up to his contract (re: $6 mil per year), and how he might get squeezed out with the shrinking cap. I doubt it will happen, but if BOS even flirts with the idea, we better be all over that like a fat kid on Smarties.

I would think Briere + Bickell is a sizeable splash. Not full-on-400-pound-man-belly-flop splash, but still decent...like average-sized-man-cannon-ball splash.

A big splash could really only be achieved through trade, unless something crazy happens like Richards being bought out and then us somehow signing him. These same people who want a big splash may be upset if they see Z-Bad + Cowen getting dealt. Be careful what you wish for!

Horton's intriguing, forgot about him. Clowe I'm not sure about at all. He's so up and down he might as well be a yo yo. Clarkson...was never a big fan of personally. He might be good here, but he's ridiculously hot and cold as well.

The suggestion Lucic might get squeezed out is hilariously ludicrous.

Clarkson will get a huge contract. Do we want him for $5M x 5 yrs?

Clowe had 3 goals this year.

Horton is a reasonable option.

Clowe was injured most of this year.

Horton has that concussion history which makes me weary.

IF they needed to trade lucic, do you see them wanting to trade him intra-division and face him about 6-8 times per year or whatever it is?

I can only see Briere going to Ottawa or New Jersey. New Jersey probably makes more sense for him to be honest. But if they don't want him, obviously not.

Apparently the Habs aren't resigning Ryder so there's another pure goal scorer we could try and get.

Clarkson either goes to Toronto or stays in NJ... if he signs in Ottawa it will be nothing short of an overpayment. He is going to get a 7 year deal for sure and probably around 6 mil per. Yah, that's the kind of money he is going to get. He will then be handed the "C" in Toronto after they left Phaneuf go or trade him. Bring this back up in 2 years time please.

Clowe is awful.

Ryder is an option because he can play with top end talent, same as Briere. Bickell would be a perfect fit on the 4th line.

NJ makes a lot of sense for a guy like him and if they don't resign Clarkson then they will be looking to add another player.

Leafs have about $18M in cap space, but need to sign 8 guys minimum. They have sume huge holes on D. Hard to see them pulling the trigger on a $5M or $6M per year deal for a forward. Don't see Clarkson winding up there unless the Leafs somehow make a deal to shed a ton of salary.

Maybe, maybe not. I would bet they try a few things to sign him. That's another player that would look really good in Ottawa but not at the cost of a 7 year deal.

I think people underestimate the impact of the cap coming down significantly. Yeah, it'll go back up, but that doesn't change the impact for next season.

Not sure but teams always spend to it and find ways to get under it... don't think it will be any different this time around.

Just to correct myself - the Leafs actually have $19M in cap space for 8 players, not $18M as I said earlier. Still, if they use up $6M on Clarkson, that leaves them $13M for a minimum of 7 players, and they have huge gaping holes on D.

I don't think they'll shell out the dough for Clarkson, but if they do, it'll hurt them way more than it will help.
