I doubt we need to add anyone who's only a depth guy right now. As mentioned we have Benoit, who worked very hard and deserves to be the 7th guy. Right now, we need to figure out what to do about Gonchar.

He's a depth guy? He played 48 games averaging 21 mins. I thought he was of the very physical dman mould, someone could refresh my memory.

Fair enough. I know he used to be, but I don't follow LA much (I think he's on LA lol). I think we might be better off looking at a hybrid of offense/defence, but it's obviously hard to find. We might be better to serve our youth.

Who on that list do you think is a top line player on any team?
I think if the Sens are patient with guys like Pageau, Turris, Zibanejad, Silfverberg, Noesen, Greening, Hoffman, Conacher(?)... In 2 years it could be quite similar.
Owner is happy, fans are happy, players are happy. If Alfie wasn't here I wouldn't even make any trades right now.

This is why I'm really hesitant to even think about trading one of our young guns. I like the way they're maturing and playing and I like our coaching staff.

Partially agree. I definitely would like the sens to focus on beating the bruins and wings in our division next year, but I think we gotta get bigger or get the greening's and Zibby's and Silfv's to use their body more. Conacher, Hoffman, Pageau, Turris are all small. I'm hoping Turris can be our Bergeron. We really should try to sign Nathan Horton, who no doubt will have many suitors if he gets to July 5th.

LA indeed. Cup winner too.

Horton might be an idea. Turris, the next Bergeron? We all wish.

He's a d-man.

Exactly. Greatest need is to score. With the goaltending we have we can afford to wait for the likes of Gryba, Wiercioch, Cowen, Ceci to develop.

I don't think we can wait if Gonchar leaves. I think that leaves us with too little experience on the back end and I think that would cost us very heavily. Not that Clit is the guy to replace Gonchar, but I like the idea of him taking Lundin's role if he'd take that.

I'd rather re-sign Benoit, in that case. But we have a lot of D.

1st pairing is Karlsson-Methot, that's pretty much set. Cowen/Gryba make a nice 2nd pairing. Full off-season to recover/train and then a full camp and pre-season, and we will see a much better Cowen. So we need to fill out the bottom pairing, and we have Phillips, Wiercioch, Borowiecki. Ideally we find a veteran RHS guy, or we could see how things play out at the start of the season.

That's what I'm hoping for. Very impressed with his defensive awareness and faceoffs in the playoffs and he's got some skill to boot.

you can never have too many d-men. With Benoit and Lundin and Gonchar gone, I would sign Clitsome as a depth d-man. He had 16 points this year, not too bad. He was pretty good when I watched him. We need scoring, but we are a team who will score with the help of the backend.

Benoit isn't going anywhere.

His tweet was kind of interesting. Made it sound like he's definitely going to look at his options.

Re-sign Benoit to replace Gonchar? No deal! Gryba on the 2nd pairing? Perhaps, but preferably on the 3rd pairing with Phillips, which takes us right back to where we were...what do we do about replacing Gonchar if he leaves?

I wish...can't see that happening now that SJ appears to have constructed a strong team.

i agree with the notion that you do not trade zib or silf. I feel they wil develop into dominating players when they get stronger and learn how to become better NHLers.
like spez said our 1st, Pumpel and Z Smith are the players you look to trade. you have to start exploring what you could get in return for a Dacosta as well. I don't think he'll make this team but a team lacking in depth my take the gamble.

Yeah, not sure Da Costa will be part of this organization next year. Pretty sure he'll be moved in a nothing little trade.

Why does everyone want to trade Puempel ? We have so few LH forward prospects and Michalek is injury prone.

I don't think Murray will trade our first this year.

As for Smith he was great defensively but didn't do much offensively (not that he is a scorer or anything). Tough call, I don't think Smith plays as physical as he should.

MacLean just said that Smith was one of two players to make the biggest strides (Turris being the other). Does that sounds like he's pumping his tires to increase trade value?

If anyone were to do that it'd be Murray.

MacLean is the coach and he calls it like he sees it. Trades etc. isn't his department.
