Depends on a lot of things. First: how much is Couture making as of 14/15? 6? 5.5? It's gonna be a big raise on what's already a team up against the cap.

http://www.capgeek.com/sharks/

55 mil for 15 players, so 9 mil for 5 or 6 players. It's not out of the realm I guess, but it'll start getting tight soon - and really, now's the time to get a 1st + for Boyle.

The Sharks are still playoff contenders. Boyle only has one year left. He was one of their best players in the playoffs. If you remove Boyle from their D, it starts getting pretty thin.

They will keep him, unless they are out of the picture come trade deadline day.

The Sharks have one year left with the current core.

Wouldn't be so sure Boyle isn't moving... they have a year left on his deal and then they need to resign Thornton, Couture(already did) and Marleau going into 14/15.  Maybe they keep him on and they make that push for the Cup again but if they move him picks and prospects I wouldn't be too surprised.

That said, I think they buyout Havlat.

Buying out Havlat makes more sense if they are trying to clear cap space for next season. When you have, literally, one more year left with the current group, does it make sense to blow it up prematurely?

Looking at SJ prospect pool it might make sense to get something for Boyle because after next year they are in a lot of trouble but fact is they could have very easily been playing in the finals right now with some luck.

Looks like Carolina, per Friedman, are considering trading some "previously untouchable" players.
Skinner anyone?

There won't be another opportunity for the Sharks to get a 1st+ or the equivalent of that, say Conacher + Puempel + mid round pick. After this, unless the do it at the deadline, his value plummets. This is where you earn your money as GM, do you do it, or do you ride it out and see what happens?...

Yeah, for Cowen. Let's do it. Although his concussion history is already bad.

More likely Cam Ward.

I know people really liked Skinner at the draft for the Sens... cost of Skinner though?  Prob not worth it, not worth Cowen anyways.

Want a young, stud forward, but yes, Cowen is not someone I readily want to trade. That said, if you want a stud on F, you have to give up.

See, I told you we'd wind up with Ribeiro!

Makes sense if they want to increase scoring but not if they want to actually get more credibility with the refs.  That said, if there is a coach in the NHL that could get through to that douche it's MacLean.  He might be an important player if Spezza goes down but again, not sure if they actually land him or want him.

I was just posting that Ribeiro thing because I know everyone here loves Ribeiro. The only way I see winding up with him is if Sens management are legitimately concerned about Spezza's future.

Don't worry, the Flyers will be buying Streit out soon!
